    Guard P38 vs L322

    P38 4.6 HSE LIKES vs L322 4.4 M62 Vogue
Button on OUTSIDE of tail gate: you don’t accidently continually press it when reaching in the back of the car.
Driving position: I am 6’ and because of bad back I recline the seat a lot which means I can’t quite get the steering wheel close enough in the L322 unless my knees are against the dash.
Controls feel: Brake steering and accelerator are all to light in the L322, conversely they are all a bit heavy in the p38.
Bonging: only cheeps at you to let you know you have left the key in. The L322 continuously Bongs at you if you leave the key in accessory so you can listen to the sound system with the driver’s door open, something I do when off road at the farm etc.
Visibility: Front and ¾ rear visibility much better due to airbags in A pillars and more tapered shape, I had to fit stick on mirror aids to both Left and right mirrors to avoid blind spots.
Flat floor: If you want to sleep in the back even though it’s not as long it is much more comfortable. The L322 rear seats have a 3” recess in the floor which I didn’t know until I bought one.
Towing: The air suspension does not go into inhibit mode when trailer electrics are plugged in. I find the ride on the L322 is more compliant over rough tracks when it is in high mode but bad luck when I am towing my tandem 700kg (empty) trailer with the trailer lights working.
EAS: it doesn’t drop from high to normal when I exceed 50kmh which is needed over dunes etc
Style: I’m sorry but the p38 is still the best LOOKING Range Rover they have ever made
    L322 4.4 M62 Vogue LIKES vs P38 4.6 HSE
Dynamics: This thing is a 4wd sports car as my Land cruiser Troop carrier owning friend calls it
Comfort: Let’s face it these things are nice to be in
    Power: It goes
Accessory points: The one in the boot even has power when it’s turned off, just don’t leave the engel running to long, they do weird things when the battery goes flat.
HDC: A nifty feature particularly over rough surfaces
Brakes: ABS works well on loose surfaces and despite been only single pot callipers these things stop well.
Cup Holder: take variety of sizes, cans cups etc, will even hold a can with a cooler on it, naturally non alcoholic.
Summary: The L322 is a superior car to the P38 (it should be) but is let down by annoying things that the safety nazi’s added like the 50 kmh limit in high mode. I would be interested if any one knows how to disable this.

I have a p38 and a 2007 tdv8, obviously totally different cars. On the Tarmac the 2007 is 10 times better.

But off-road with mods the p38 is awesome, I wonder if the l322 will keep up, being a larger vehicle won't help. With my 2007 the smallest after market rims are 18s, can you get 16s on the earlier l322s.

The biggest issue I have with p38 is at least one thing breaks down every month, (generally not show stoppers though).

The p38 is more comfortable than my 07 vogue or my parents 2012 sport, the seats are awesome

End of the day they are two totally different cars, love both.

    Hm

    Yes they are totally different,

How ever they are both Range Rovers and should be awesome cars : actually they are both awesome. You can probably tell I have a soft spot for my P38 having owned it for nearly 10 years. the only thing I hate on the vehicle is the window switches which are back to front compared with a commodore or Jag ie the bottom switch is the back window. WTF were they thinking. Even after 10 years with the vehicle I still get it wrong. Having said that as a passenger in my own p38 I can put all the windows up or down as required where as in the more up to date L322 those switches are out of my reach on the drivers door. Another thing the Germans got wrong. Having driven both off road except for the tyre's I would think the L322 is superior, it just does it so Effortlessly. I tried to do donuts with mine in a swamp and it just would not play ball. I couldn't even get the wheels to spin after holding the brake and trying to launch it in sport mode. Even the Troopy driver was and is impressed.

    L322
Is a womans car, its got all the bling and tidy bits.
Its very soft underneath if you are looking at heavy track work.
I have a vogue 02 it is very comfy.
The bumpers are BS its too easy to damage.
The L322 feels massive to drive after the P38.
The V8 will get up and go like a scolded cat if you want it too.
Going for a long drive in this is a pretty pleasant experience.
A/C with boost is amazing on a hot day.

    P38
Is a mans car, just get under it and you will see that with proper axles and diffs and a chassis it can take a beating off road.
You can give things a fair nudge with the bumpers without fear of damage.
Inner city driving and parking the P38 eats the L322.
I still love my 38 and it is by far my preferred choice for city driving.
For practicality the 38 wins hands down I feel.
If the P38 had the L322 Auto and V8 in it you would have one hell of a weapon.
