    MY06 petrol V8 and supercharged

I was wondering what people think of the MY06 year model V8 petrol in either the standard or super charged?
    I know it's the Jaguar/Ford V8 and not the BMW V8.
I'm pretty sure it's a ZF transmission as opposed to the older one with issues.
    What are the general issues?
Also does anyone have real world petrol figures?
I'm also partially interested in MY08 TDV8 models too but not sure.
Trying to take my time to pick what model is best for me.

Check out the full fat RR forum - plenty there running these V8's. Yes, the trannie is the ZF unit, and while it is better than the GM unit, it is far from trouble free, but it's design is much better and it's issues can be overcome. The V8 goes great, I haven't driven a supercharged version - I might have to find one to look over...

The V8's seem a bit rarer than the diesel it seems, or those that own them, don't want to sell them.

Yeah the supercharged would be awesome but just too expensive on fuel.
I'm curious what real world figures are like.
I'm really wanting to get a vogue but am having issues choosing which model I'd buy.
Plus not sure if I can sell my defender. I love it a lot.
If it was auto I'd keep it for sure.
I unfortunately use it as a daily driver for work.
    It's painful in traffic.

    Don't sell the Defender!

First rule of LR ownership - buy more, don't sell the old ones...!

I drive every day in traffic, and I would switch back to a manual in a heartbeat. I've driven my 101 in heavy peak hour traffic on a 35 degree day with no air cond - love it.

Maybe I'm a bit strange though..

    Yes I know. I don't want to.
Just don't know if I can afford to have both.
    Or have the space.

I have a 2005 Discovery 3 with the 4.4 V8 and 6 speed ZF. Awesome motor to haul a 3 tonne car it just gets expensive at the pump. It also needs Premum Unleaded. I get 11 L/100km on the highway and around 18 L/100km around town. With spirited driving I can get 24 L/100km. Very solid engine. You will get much better economy with a diesel but they can be very pricey to maintain and repair. I guess it comes down to what driving you do and can you justify the fuel usage against the purchase saving over a diesel. You could always look at gas but I live in North Queensland and it isn't cost effective. I have a long range tank but purchasing premium on a trip could be problematic.

    Thanks Carl,
What are the known general issues with you're motor?
Timing chain tensioner is what I've read.
    Otherwise not much else????

In my 2003 td5 defender 90 I get around 10l per 100 no matter where I drive and if I have a/c on or not.
    My D4 2010 3.0 TDV6 that I used to have was around 8 -10 litres per100

I have only had it since December.
    Known issues-
With the custom exhaust it is music to my ears.
Blows away most ****boxes at the lights.
Each time you do this you pay for it.
    Fuel economy around town.

Mine came with a lot of extras. I am going to get a D4. Transfer extras and sell D3. I would love to get an old Jag and put this motor in it. If you go to the D3/4 page many people consider this engine to be very reliable.
