I'd throw a voltmeter on it and keep an eye on it before replacing the alternator. If it's always at least 14volts, you can rule that out as an issue

Is there something special about the alternator. Universal bosch 120ampers aren't that expensive .... you just modify the mount to fit them.

Unfortunately the alternators in the 4.4 are water cooled so there are limited options for replacement. The electrical load in the L322 is similar to the star ship Enterprise and just as expensive for associated parts.

Yep, under 200 quid, so my guess would be around $600 landed give or take depending on freight. I've used these guys before - usually deliver within 3 or 4 working days. They will give you options for freight when you place the order and you get an option to cancel if it is too steep for you. (Well they did last time I ordered from them. )

Yep - that's the one he needs, he has the TD6, not the V8.
