Still looking for a goody thanks
Hi team,
We found a RR L322 and are looking for some guidance, it would need to be shipped to us, so far we have offered 24,000 for an early BMW v8 05 model with lower KM's however, it needs reg and rwc + shipping.
The pre inspection report found the following items.:
SUNROOF WILL NOT OPEN FULLY, FOULS ON DVD.
HIGH/LOW TRANSFER SELECT SWITCH MISSING BUTTON SMALL STONE CHIPS IN WINDSCREEN OIL LEAK FRON R/H TIMING COVER.
BOTH FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHES STARTING TO PERISH.
MOVEMENT IN REAR LOWER SUSPENSION ROSE JOINTS
REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHES PERISHED
REQUIRES NEW RADIATOR CAP
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FUID DIRTY. SERVICE RECOMMENDED.
It has a good service history from a land rover dealership. The things that concern me are the dirty fluid in box and the bushes that may be RWC items ?
Any guidance on whether this is to expensive and what we should be looking to pay ? or with the box fluid being dirty should we walk away ?

It's really difficult to advise. I don't know a lot about the BMW v8s with the ZF 5hp24 transmission.
Also, I haven't really followed the petrol v8 market, but for that money it would need to be immaculate, mechanically excellent with full service history and be low km.
I think walking away was a good idea.

I dont know much about the rangies as far as what to look for but i have heard the jag motors are better than the beemers (though some dont like the throttle response)
Also the 6 speed auto is a tried and true transmission, as found the the d3/4 and RRS. It should be serviced at or before 100 000km (the one in my D3 was done at 116k km and seems ok). Dont know anything about the 5 speed.
Here is a jag 6speed model:

Its a vogue too so should have some fruit.
Cheers

The advert is inaccurate. It's a 5 speed. The absence of TR confirms it.
The ZF 5 speed sounds ok from what I've read, but I agree the ZF 6 speed 6HP26 is better, and is in many vehicles from the Ford Falcon all the way up to a Bentley. The Ford/Jag motor with 6 speed seems to get a good rap.

Thanks rar110
If that is the case there are a lot of ads which are incorrect! I am cautious with carsguide ads - they're not always correct.
Do you know when they changed to the 6spd?
Cheers
Dan
Edit: wikipedia says sometime in 2006. Not sure how accurate that is regarding model year.

Hi qsilver
P38aRover just picked up an early L322
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/showthread.php't=229238
He has already had trouble with the gearbox. (5 speed). From a quick read it appears the 5spd box is the weak link, so if you find a good one make sure the box has a warranty or allow for a rebuild at some stage.
Hope all this helps, rather than make it harder
Cheers
Dan
Thanks, yup I had read about the box and the front diff links if the box is serviced than they can be OK. I found one more locally however it seems the dealer won't release the car to a specialist citing policy strange, but I wonder if there are any specialists in Melbourne that will roam ?
If they won't let you take it somewhere, then they have something to hide.
Walk away.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
