Oils are all different yes, transfer case uses a special synthetic as do the diffs which use a different oil to the TC - I'm sure there's an equivalent oil somewhere but for the litre each one takes, I found it wasn't a hugely expensive excersize buying genuine from a dealer.
Same as the coolant - 5 litres of concentrate from the dealer makes up the 15 litres of coolant required if you change it - 10 litres of deminerilsed water is cheap, and the concentrate was around $80 IIRC.
I used ordinarily PS fluid when I change mine way back when I got it and it hasn't been done since and it never had any issues with the 100,000KM we put on it.
An oil change takes nearly 10 litres, so buying it in 20 litre containers will save you a heap. I could buy 20 litres of what I used for about the same as 2 x 5 litre packs down at Supercheap.
Once you're happy with all the fluids, the only other maintenance item I'd be checking sooner rather than later is the centre bearing and uni joint in the rear tailshaft - these look like they are starting to become a problem in the earlier models. Not a hugely expensive fix if your handy with the spanners, but as the old uni is staked in, a press certainly makes life easier here.
Oh, if you don't have a set already, you're going to need a good set of torx bits and torx sockets - pretty much everything on them is fastened with torx screws.

I bought one of these, been handy in doing a lot of the smaller stuff, like dash take apart to install stuff. reasonably priced and life time guarantee HRD - 84 Piece Metric Socket Set & Powerbit Set - SSE1484BSHRD | Total Tools
I also bought a small rack of torx sockets to do the bigger stuff. 3/8 inch drive.
To do the oil filter I ended up buying a 36mm single hex impact socket 1/2"drive ( yes over kill for the job) but it was the size that fits and that was what i could find.

Here is a pic....
restocking supplies after a quick trip to Wollongong to pick up Karavan after a trip to Melbourne on Monday to pick up Range Rover. In the days in between, sorted the tow bar (tow ball height: get a different tongue) and started on the brake controller (remote head currently on the end of a wire, still to install permanently in dash)
The Karavan purchase came before the RR, but I think the 300tdi would have been working pretty hard compared to the TD6.

Nice, same colour as mine, now i know where to get my second hand bits off only joking .
You probably won't notice the van is behind you. Have a safe trip home and don't fall asleep driving it , they are so comfy.
