4.4 TDV8 EGT sensor live value

Could people with a 4.4 TDV8 and an IIDtool check the live temperature values for EGT bank1 sensors 1-3 and bank2 sensor 1 please? Our Euro4 engines only have an EGT sensor in the left manifold and Euro5 engines have 3 more in the exhaust but all 4 of mine show the default value of 100 deg C. It appears that bank2 sensor 1 is after the secondary turbo on Euro5 engines so our single Euro4 sensor shouldn't be this one.

Update - Euro5 engines have 4 EGT sensors located in exhaust pipes so the 4 listed in the IIDtool are probably those. The IIDtool does not appear to list the 2 EGR temp sensors, with the EGR inlet sensor likely to be the one in the left manifold and the EGR outlet temp sensor located in the EGR cooler outlet pipe.

The common DTC P040D-00(2F) EGR temp sensor A high is therefore expected to refer to the EGT sensor in the manifold rather than the sensor in the cooler outlet pipe that is commonly replaced in vain trying to fix the error.

Thanks for the offer, Justin. However I'm now quite certain that the IIDtool only shows the Euro5 sensors in the exhaust pipe, not the one in the manifold because it appears to be the EGR input temp sensor. The live values log of the 4 EGT sensors that the IIDtool reports align nicely before, during and after a DPF regen with the 3 EGT sensors in a row below the primary turbo, between the cat and DPF and after the DPF and the 4th one after the secondary turbo. I've asked Gap if they can add the 2 EGR temp sensors to the list but they're on their annual shutdown for another 2 weeks.

I'd like to know what the manifold EGT sensor is used for - perhaps purely for EGR management or possibly also as a cross-check with other fuel-related sensors. The sensor part number has been superseded so perhaps a new one will survive better but the task of changing it appears quite involved.

I'm also wondering if the oll cooler gasket problem is caused by the EGR cooler bypass valve being inappropriately open causing excessive heat along the side of the oil cooler. I'll monitor the valve using the IIDtool to work out what's happening.

Im going to be using Autologic, what kind of environment do you require? Hot or cool idle? Light load?

Thanks Justin. Hot enough for the exhaust gas in the manifold to be over 100 deg C. I'd also be interested to know what name Autologic gives to the sensor.

Patrick at Gap said that their tool has all live values implemented by LR. Therefore I assume that Autologic won't show the 2 EGR temperature sensors either.

Yup. 100deg default for all sensors, all the time. They are in the screen for DPF monitoring so that probably explains why they are not active.

Thanks Justin. At least I now know that its not just the IIDtool lacking EGR temperature monitoring.

Was working on a tdi golf 2.0 last week, engine in limp mode, the egr sensor had failed. Dpf equipped vehicle so all sensors were visible and working ok. A manual regen wasn't required as they do long highway miles in it. Goes well, too except for the dsg dual mass flywheel rattling....☹
