TDV8 3.6 longevity

I’m no expert, but assume it happens when a big split occurs.

I like to give mine a bit of right foot on a regular basis to blow out any cobwebs. I have a theory that getting revs above 4000 is beneficial for the motor.

Another benefit is when a very small split occurs it shows up early. I gave mine a bit if right foot when the engine warning light came on. Fortunately with some more sedate driving I was able to get home and temporarily tape up the affected area.

Then I got some great silicone hoses from Roverlord Offroad Spares. Thanks Mario. [emoji106]

The 4.4's alternator is 2nd generation style like those used in the 3.0 TDV6 which seem to not suffer the early demise of the 3.6 & 2.7 alternators, probably due to their higher capacity power diodes not constantly working too close to their limits. The 4.4's is 220A.

I don't suppose they are compatible / retrofittable? For next time...

One would have to firstly check thay they use the same comms protocol, then the mount and pulley. My son fitted a 4.4 alternator to his 3.0 TDV6 D4 which use the same comms protocol but the bracket required some honing and a free-wheeling pulley fitted instead of the 4.4's fixed pulley.

I understand that the 3.6 replacement alternators last longer than the originals.
