I recall when I was a NSW Range Rover Club member that on almost every long trip an L322 would have problems mainly with the suspension.
Before the club bought an IID tool, one bloke had to from Broken Hill to Adelaide on the bump stops.
The D3 D4s always had problems with tyres, and although just an example of one an RRS lost the RH front when a screw was not put into place to hold the hose. Luckily the club by then had a tool and it was able to be fixed.
IMHO the simpler the better on long dirt trips.
