New L322 owner...advice on transmission leak please

Hi, I've just bought a 3.6 TDV8 Vogue. Single owner personal vehicle of a past LR business/mechanic. Seems very well maintained and has had regular transmission fluid changes. The owner told me up front that it can leak a bit of transmission fluid where the wiring goes into the auto but that it was only an "eggcup" amount when parked for a long period of time (there was nothing on the ground where the vehicle had been parked for a while when I went to see it). However, on the first day of being parked nose up in my sloped driveway, it looks like it had leaked a lot more than an eggcup in a single night. The previous owner told me that that's possible given the direction of the leak...I'll park it nose down tonight to see if that makes a difference. There's no fluid on the ground when parked on the flat. However, I'm concerned that if it leaks when cold and stationary, then it will definitely leak when hot and running. Previous owner didn't think the fluid would necessarily be pushed out when running?

Should I be worried or is this a common problem and a simple fix - e.g. silastic around the wiring plug and between the wires where they go into the gearbox? Thanks

It is probably your medtronic plug leaking at the back of the box - if it is I believe the the gearbox sump needs to come off and a new plug put in.

Some say this should be replaced each time the gearbox is serviced but as mine was not leaking I did not change mine, though I have a spare ready - they are cheap to buy.

Definitely sounds like the mechatronics data sleeve. Sump off, unplug it and then pull down the plastic retainer , lever out the sleeve. Use only GENUINE ZF sleeve, rubber grease the o rings, it goes in with the slot at 6 o'clock. They take some pushing in but keep at it until you are able to push the retainer up easily. Don't force it. And DO NOT touch any of the pins in the mech unit.

Yes - mechatronics sleeve - mine was leaking about a table spoon over a week.

There is 3 o-rings on the plastic sleeve, 2 a standard and the 3rd is a flat ring. These flatten out and the sleeve is a lot harder to get back in with new O-rings.

While you have the mechatronics out, change the 5 seals between the mechatronics and main transmission, these squash down as well and made a big difference to shift quality in mine.

I used this set:For BMW 6HP26 6HP28 6HP32 Transmission Valve Body Connector Adapter Seal Kits x6 | eBay
I had trouble getting the new sleeve in and on close inspection it had an extra little tab, so I simply swapped the new O-rings onto the old sleeve.
**should be able to get it from aus seller for around $60
