    Intermittent gearbox high temp warning 04 V8

    G'day Guys,

    So I'm getting an intermittent high temp warning with my L322 M62 transmission. It just flashes for a second and then goes away and sometimes in the morning I have a Trans in failsafe mode. Shut it down and restart and it drives normally.

    It also has a fault code for the trans temp sensor. So I need a new transmission wiring harness.

    The only one I can find is from British Atlantic but I rather shop in Aust.

    Anyone change theirs out before and where did you get it from?

    Thanks, I just ordered one from FCP.

    When it comes in I'll change it out along with TransGo pressure reg I've had sitting here for 6 months

    If it's intermittent I'd suggest putting a ohm meter on the transmission ecu end of the temp sensor and wiggle the harness and plug about. It's likely it's the connector or something than the harness itself if it's intermittent....unless the sensor is dead.

    I've had the odd random trans failure it's usually just a canbus error only...

    So I've replaced the Tranny wiring harness and fitted the TransGo Pressure regulator and changed the filter and topped it off with some Valvoline Maxlife ATF. It took about 7 litres. (I've been using Maxlife in all my trannies since my XJ8 Jag 10 years ago and haven't had an issue)

    Pretty basic and the only issue I came across was that the wiring loom plugs are very, very brittle so they just disintegrate when you are removing them. I had a problem that on of the solenoid plugs wouldn't go on. But then I put my glasses on and seen that a bit of the old plug was stuck on the solenoid. I had to get a pick to pull it out and then the new plug fitted.

    The TransGo pressure reg just slid in with no problem. I did have it in the freezer and the tranny was a little warm.

    So not a hard problem to fix or job to do but a lift would have been nice. I did it with the suspension in high mode in the driveway. You do get covered in ATF and i had to wash my hair 6 times to get the oil out.

    Took it for a spin around the block and it feels pretty good. My tranny wasn't bad to begin with but I have noticed a smoother shift especially when shifting into gear.

    I took 3 hours and 6 beers to complete. (but 2 hours without the beers)

    Update: Took it for a good drive today and it's silky smooth. I did have a hard'ish shift into 3rd and again coming to a stop when it changed into 1st but that is all fixed now, so is the intermittent over temp warning and the "Tran in failsafe" in the mornings. So all good.
