    Tdv8 snorkel.

Gentlemen, I know this will not be to everyone’s liking but I would like to put a snorkel on my 3.6 tdv8. I will be doing a fair bit of outback travel so I would bike to keep the dust and water at bay. I had a good look at the air box today and all the connections are loose and open to dust etc. I thought a snorkel, well sealed would do the job. I have had experience with flooding and I think the connections are a big part of the problem….. question is……. Has anyone done this mod and if so which snorkel did you use? Taking into account that the inlet seems to be on the LHS.
Thanks in advance for your information.
    cheers,
    Phil.

    Hi Phil
I have seen Discovery 3 snorkel kits fitted in the UK, I don't know if they were V8 or TdV8 models, but it may pay to have a read

In the recent past there has been a snorkel installation done and detailed on AULRO.
I just cannot find the posting at present, but it was good looking job with pics and detailed installation info.
I think he had to make much of the item himself and sourced some fittings, but it was successful installation and looked OK.
    Perhaps search AULRO

    Gday Phil
I can recall someone doing a fairly nice job with a custom made snorkel on a L322 3.6 or possibly td6. They ran the intake pipe through the inside of the outer guard to the b-pillar just above the shark fins. It might have been on FFRR site like Laurie says. It looked ok.

    Good luck with the project.

    I fitted a snorkel - because I could.

Prior to that I did thousands of kilometres of outback travel - where the guard intake is hardly gets any dust, and water that high = trouble.

Not a necessity in most use.

Thanks for your help. I intend to do some serious investigations before I attempt this. First I will seal all the gaps etc in the current system to make sure it is dust and water tight.
    Cheers.

I fitted sealed a RAI to my D4 because the air filter got very dusty quite quickly where I drive, let alone on outback travels. However the primary filter on my 4.4 TDV8 L322 doesn't get nearly as dirty as the L322 takes air from forward of the front wheels rather than from behind. With mine's primary turbo intake on the RHS I could make a D4 RAI fit but I won't be fitting one because even on a dusty outback trip the primary filter didn't get dusty. The secondary filter doesn't get dirty as the secondary turbo is rarely used. The 3.6 TDV8 in the L322 takes air from the same area, forward of the front wheels.
