    TDV8 4.4 P040D-00(2F) fault

Hi, just got car checked (Pre trip) for our 11,000 klm trip towing caravan to WA, the fault came up and my mechanic knows I can do work on my own car so he said as fault is a closed circuit he believes it is a sensor fault, car still runs fine and no problems, I ordered sensor and arrives tomorrow. still have annoying rattle coming from front suspension it’s got us buggered, I’ve fitted new front struts, we found a few bolts missing in under motor covers, getting ball joint replaced and a new front sway bar tomorrow frustrating, cars been running perfect for over 12 months since fan belt and crankshaft seal problem just before we go away, better no I suppose than out on the road

The sensor is in the left exhaust manifold and is quite difficult to R&R. It is only used if a DPF is fitted so if the vehicle doesn't have a DPF then most owners just ignore the fault code.

Thanks Graeme once again, my mechanic said that but was not sure if it may do something that we don’t want, replacing it and getting computer to be happy is a safeguard especially with the distance we are about to cover, R&R isn’t too bad, he had a rover V8 they had removed for turbo and he showed me how and where it was to replace, I’ve got a set of crowfoot spanners so once I remove pollen filter housing it’s just down from there

You'll need a very deep socket and hopefully the heat shields won't be misaligned so that the socket can get down onto the sensor. Mine's had the fault for more than 100K kms and the only indication of its existance is by checking for fault codes.

Graeme, hope we’re talking about same sensor it’s at the back behind the valley sort of on drivers side, LR052169

No, that looks like the one that I changed on mine to no effect. The culprit is in the left exhaust manifold about half way along. I'll track down the part number shortly.

    LR022893 which supersedes to LR052169.

The one at the back on the RH side mounts in or near the EGR valve.

ok Graeme, I’ve read up about it on full fat and saw your posts back in 2018, so you haven’t as yet changed this sensor and you tow a caravan, you’ve had no problems?? Jaguar3 on full fat said the sensor controls the EGR bypass valve, am going out this morning to drop car off to get a couple of last minute things done and wheel alignment, will talk to them about it, I normally do as much as I can myself but have too many jobs I have to get finished work wise before we head off on the 12th, big trip Melbourne to Perth and up to Ningaloo estimate 11,000+ klms, we did 5000 klms around Tasmania 12 months ago and car was incredible, especially liked overtaking Toyota’s up hills 😂
If it’s not necessary to replace the sensor I’ll leave it but will take the part with me, so manifold sensor is not LR052169 it is superseded with LR022893, as always thanks for your help Graeme

LR052169 is the latest part number. Yes, I usually tow my 2.5T van at the speed limit so no pussy-footing about.

I never intend to change mine's sensor and now that EGR has recently been mapped-out, whether the EGR cooler coolant bypass valve is open or close is now irrelevant, if the sensor is indeed used for that purpose. BTW Jaguar3 isn't always correct.
