Front differential noise and metal in oil
Looking for some advice...
I've just done an oil change on my front diff, as it's started making noise.
The oil was very brown and smelling bad, but it also had very small metal particles in it. The top filler plug had metal paste attached to the magnet, but the bottom drain plug had old crudded metal paste on it that I had to chisel off, so it looks like it's been wearing for a while.
Anyway, I see that there are rebuild kits available, but they are just bearings and oil seals.
I would have assumed that it's the gears that have worn rather than the bearings, so my question is, has anyone been in a similar situation and rebuild the diff successfully, or should I just be looking for a second hand diff?
