Thread: Is there a VIN decoder number that shows if a L322 has a DPF?

I live on an island known as the DPF diesel killer. Top speed 50 km/h (30 mph). Maximum driving distance 20 km (12 miles). $200 ferry charge to take the car to the mainland where it can be driven long and fast enough to burn out the carbon. Any diesel vehicle on the island with DPF lasts about 10,000 km before it cooks.

I'd like to buy a L322, but before I go to the mainland to look at a candidate, I need to make sure it does not have a DPF.

I am able to look up build sheets on VIN Decoder | VIN Lookup | VIN check | Vindecoderz but it is unclear what code means DPF, if any.

It is likely to either be a Japanese Domestic Model (JDM) imported to New Zealand, or a NZ new. Everything I find online says until about 2009, DPF was optional with some having it, others not. Most advice says to be sure, look at the car, but that's a problem.

Anyone know how to verify by the build sheet or VIN?

I was under the impression that no L322s in Australia had DPF? DPFs were introduced with the L405?
