2007 3.6 V8 diesel L322 click of death when trying to start

    Hi folks,
Spent a bit of money and not fixed this issue, need some help now please.
At the beginning of December had to get towed as the old girl would not start. Got a genuine starter fitted, came back and ran for 3-4 weeks no issues. Travelled from Bendigo down to Goolwa for Christmas and new year. DRove like a dream and the team at Romsey British Automotive did a great job servicing her and doing a preventative replacement of the radiator and intercooler, so that there would be no issues in that area on the long trip and expected heat.

CLick of death returned but got a jump start no probs so bought a one of those little (expensive jump packs just in case).
Every time I had the click, jump start with the pack is ok.
I had to use it a few times over a few days but no probs.
Back in Bendigo did it again so took her back to the crew that had replaced the starter. They tested the battery and said it needed replacing, so got that.
5 days later, click of death, and started her up and called the guys and booked her in they said must be a loose connection. Last night I checked and the pos connector came away in my had. It had been tightened all the way up but hadn’t tightened on the terminal. Got some terminal shims, cut one up and flattened out a piece of lead to fit to use as a shim, and all done, tight terminals tight can’t move them. Pleased with my self. Until this third time I started her this morning , click. STarter pack jumper on and started no problems.
    What’s next folks, starter relay?
On the positive side I have a new starter motor and battery, but down side the problems still there . Help!

Check that the starter cable isn't periodically shorting on the body somewhere.

The cause won't be a short to earth but a poor earth is a possibility, either due to a loose connection or the earth strap between the body and the engine is frayed which then doesn't carry the full current that is required. However I would replace the starter relay anyway.
