Lesson here folks is If in doubt, take a quick photo with phone BEFORE you pull a belt off that you are not yet very familiar with

First lesson I learnt as a NON-mechanic: take photos of everything before you touch anything!

Like touching what? Well I didn't have a camera at the fire station when I met my wife.

Too true! I guess I felt a bit over confident and complacent after fitting millions of belts...but never one to one of these yet To make matters worse, I'm trying to do it without removing fan and shroud etc etc etc as that is way too much stuff to remove. Give me a Tdi or V8i anyday to fit a serp belt to

Ever done a water pump belt on a Peugeot 404/504/505 they are fitted just to crank and water pump both of which are not adjustable which makes them really hard and tight to fit. The alternator is another belt. It drove us nuts and a couple of extra belts from damaging them when fitting them each time, it was a dumb design idea also we are fully qualified nutters, not mechanics.

    Good luck with the Saab.

Anytime you want to play with a Tdi, mine is always waiting over West for you to return to it.

In fact...I wouldn't be surprised if it is going through withdrawals.

good advice there... as of this evening I'm up to almost 130 pics of my RR P38A engine refresh project and haven't even got the exhaust manifolds off yet. Not really sure how I'm going to get that serpentine belt back on, but that is way off yet

    Cheers, Paul.
