Without going into a lot of detailed research similar stuff to the Sport would be a good start.

I have just been from Perth to NSW twice as well as trips to Mount Augustus and Tasmania

in the last six months,

towing a caravan, and have only carried two spare tyres and a GAP IID. The only issue I had was persistent suspension faults that started in Victoria in May and got worse. I just had that fixed before the last trip to Victoria three weeks ago and it turned out to be a blocked air gallery due to wet desiccant in the compressor filter, which wouldn't let the system vent prior to the compressor starting and caused an error. It also destroyed the compressor and a new compressor has fixed it, with no more errors for the 14,000km we did in the last three weeks.

Just a sat-phone..... and some industrial strength road-side assist

Yeah, a sat phone is good and I always travel with one. I also got the best road side assistance I could get from the RAC in case the worst happened! Mine is well out of warranty so the Land Rover road side assistance, which seems to be pretty good even in remote areas, is not applicable to me.

Thanks BobD & Gregz, sounds like I’m pretty well set as have my spares kit from the sport & top cover with RACQ & a sat phone & IIDTool. Like you BobD I tug a van so have 2 spare wheels for the car. I have a spare brake light switch as part of the sport’s spares & wondering if this is the same part for the L405 ( same as Ford Territory apparently).

The L405 brake switch has the same part number as the D3/D4/L320 RRS and L494 RRS.

If you have wheel sensors and other electronic bits from the Sport I would check that they are still applicable to the L405. I expect that they may be different although Graeme has confirmed that the brake switch is the same. I meant that you could need the same sort of stuff not that the parts are compatible between the two models.

Also check that the GAP IID works with your car. It is not compatible with the TDV6 version of the L405 and they had to modify the software/firmware for it to work with my TDV6. However, it still thinks the car has a viscous fan whereas the L405 has electric fans, so they appear to have slotted in the parameters for the D4 V6, and not made it fully compatible with the RRV TDV6. My GAP IID wouldn't even recognise my friends latest model Sport SDV6, even though I had the patch for the TDV6 in the L405. If you look at their web site they appear to think that all Range Rovers are V8's. When I rang them to sort out mine, they were very surprised that I had a V6 diesel.

Wow Bob....that is one hell of a road trip!!!!

L405/L494/L462 height sensors are specific but common to these vehicles although MY18 rear sensors appear to be different.

Height sensors since about MY07 appear to be very reliable and as the air suspension system works albeit without refinements with only 3 sensors, I don't feel the need to carry spares.
