MY18+ front tow hook cover removal

I've followed my MY21's online user guide on how to remove the cover but without success. I don't know if the cover is meant to be at an angle or not, although I tried pulling both straight out the front and with the bottom edge pulled down at an angle but the top edge hasn't moved. The instructions only state to pull from the bottom edge starting at 1 end after releasing the 4 large screws.
I managed to extract 1 tab using a large screwdriver as a lever and that tab has a tongue that appears to need to be lifted up or pushed down from behind, which can't be the case.

    Anyone with suggestions?

Liberal squirting of water up under the cover along the front edge after removing the 4 big screws along the bottom and more water along the outside front edge allowed the cover to be pulled directly forwards from 1 side with only moderate force that reduced with each successive removal, presumably reducing the sharp edges on the plastic sockets.
