Thread: 2018 D5 New Brake Pads at 33000km.

Many D4's,RRS, also needed pads and rotors at that sort of mileage.

Where you drive,around town or country as well as driving style has a major effect on brake pad wear.

Dirt roads and sand often wears out the rears prematurely.

Don't know about D5,but D4 have many after market pads and rotors that wear better than OEM,and don't leave the black dust on the rims.

The cost of $2800 seems excessive for just pads,but then again it is a price from an LR dealer.

Maybe it is rotors as well,but still seems excessive.

You could try a good LR Indie.

Actually,D4 OEM pads and rotors front and rear, are around half that cost fitted by a good Indie.

Thats an outrageous charge to do pads only. Are they Brembo pads? If so, for my car you cant buy those specific pads in Aus apart from through the dealer, so I imported them and saved millions, possibly more.

I took my Skoda (bought new) in for a 70k service. Dealer told me that I needed new pads and rotors. I told the stealer “no thanks”.. Stealer said “your car isn’t road worthy”... Anyway the car has now done 130,000km and still the same rotors... I asked my local RWC mechanic to check them over and he said “there isn’t anything wrong with your rotors”... Ahem
They don’t call them stealers for nothing....

millions? 100s of thousands I can believe but millions! I think you may be exaggerating.

To the OP. If you are in anyway mechanically adept replace them yourself. If not, an independent or even a trusted local mechanic will do it much cheaper.

Skoda Octavia RS Turbo wagon. Brilliant car - no issues with it so far. Great value for money, lots of features. (diesel) - get about 6.5L/100. Have seen over 200+ on the speedo (naturally on you tube)..

Maybe LR is trying to Claw back some of the money it is forking out for Warranty issues, Other than that I can't see any other "Valid" reason why they are charging $2800 for a simple and relatively inexpensive brake pad replacement job.
Get an Indy to do the brakes and IF the service itself is ridiculously high get a Indy to do that as well

Just a heads up, this is where I came unstuck. Mine is an Audi, but the problem I had was with the electric handbrake. I’m not sure if the LR is the same, but I needed to be able to get into the computer to make the electric handbrake fully retract rather than just release. The electric handbrake is an electric motor on the back of the brake calliper piston that squeezes the piston. A home mechanic like myself cant do this via the onboard electronics, so it still cost me $200 at the dealer to put the rear pads so they could fully release the calipers, but at least the pads were $100-150 per end instead of $500.
