Unless you want to dust your engine if you use the car on dirt/in the bush.

I did do a search and couldn't find anything.

I am looking at a dry high flow air filter as opposed to an oil type filter like K&N.

Wouldn't it be better for the engines longivity to use the stock air filter to make sure No dust gets into the engine, Just make sure you replace it if it gets too contaminated.
Many people neglect their air cleaner filter when doing a service, I tend to replace mine every 3-4 5000k services or even more often when i have used the truck in dusty conditions.
I don't own a Landrover TDV8 But my D2a petrol V8 and my 79 Series TDV8 are fitted with stock air filters and I haven't had any problems with a restricted air flow in either of these engines.
Both trucks are fitted with a ram head snorkel which does slightly increase the airflow But I don't think that they make that much difference overall.

What makes you think that the 2 LR filters are restricting performance?

Nothing wrong with the original air filters, just looking at improvements.

The ones I am looking at actually have a better filtration system yet better airflow.

Unless they use nanofibre media, it would be highly unlikely they are more efficient than the genuine cellulose fibre/paper filters.

That's far too frequent except when driving on dirt/off road every day, and even then it might be too frequent.
I still did 20,000km air filter changes on the Tdi when I was still on the farm.Ben/Isuzurover tested the Donaldson I used and it had plenty of life still in it.

Air filters become more efficient the more heavily loaded they become, right up to the point the pressure drop is so great they collapse.
You'd remember seeing pressure drop indicators on tractor and truck air filter housings.
That's when you change the element, any sooner and you are wasting money.

In my experience people change them too frequently.

Having said that the panel filters Land Rover used on the TD5 were pretty ordinary and only a few brands of elements sealed properly.

I'll kick up the laptop later and dig up the air filter testing threads.
