    WTB MY17/18 RRS

    Morning All,

As the title suggests, I’m looking to buy an MY17/18 RRS within the next month or two. I have started looking around and have a couple that I’m interested in, but thought I’d join the forum to learn more from the people that have actually owned them and have had any negative experiences/things I should look out for before buying, so many people have told me to stay away, but I just don’t want to!. I have heard so many horror stories about them but still refuse to be put off by them. I’ve always wanted one. I currently have a 2011 Cayenne V6 Diesel and have just clocked up 376k kms. It’s been bullet proof besides having to change the alternator once, and have a slight leaking issue within the footwell on the passenger side when it rains a lot. So I’m hoping to hear from you guys about advice/insights into the RRS.

    Cheers.

I'm not sure about horror stories... are you talking engines?
I just spent 3K on a service but against the value of the car, and the fact its nearly irreplaceable makes it money well spent.

    Dont expect bulletproof.
Nobody that buys Land Rover buys it for reliability.

Mind you, one ride in a 2017 RRS will convince you its money well spent.
Get the SDV8... make your peace with adblue.

I appreciate the reply. When I’ve been told about the reliability issues, I’ve asked the question of what specifically and I’ve never been able to get a straight answer because all I’ve been told is heresay, which is what led me to join here. But yes, I do prefer to go for the SDV8, currently having a V6TD, I thought it might be nice to get into a V8. I do a lot of driving with my work plus family trips ect, and I’ve always looked at the Range Rovers as the ultimate in comfort and daily duties. Are there specialists that you guys Service your cars at that are more reasonable than the dealers?

Plenty of good and capable indies Australia wide, blokes more local to you can recommend ones in Melbourne.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

There are plenty of horror 'stories' regarding JLR products. Historically it's probably justified. But based on my experience, I just keep coming back. I've had two D4s and now a 2019 SDV6 RRS. First D4 was a bit painful until the first of type bugs were nutted out. Then it was flawless. Second D4 was flawless from the get go. I've had the RSS for almost a year and no issues thus far, that weren't caused by the previous owner.

They have a lot less storage space than a Disco but make up for it in driving ability/enjoyment both off and on road. No other true 4WD drives like a disco in my experience and the RRS is just that step above.

They do have a few software based quirks every now and then ... but then, so does my laptop, my phone and my wife's BMW .... that's software centric devices for you.

Oh ... one point ... unlike a disco, they don't come standard with a tow pack ... which also means no rated recovery point in the bum. They are fitted for, but not with, electrically, so one can be fitted later I'm also not 100% certain that all have the ability to fit a roof rack (factory rails). Things to check for, it that's important.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I get the quirks of modern vehicles with so much electronics, my Wife has a new Mercedes CLA and I hate it with a passion! Technology overkill. With regards to towing and roof racks etc, thankfully I have no need for any of it. I’m currently in the phase of watching so many YouTube videos of RRS that I fall more in love with it. Are you happy with the SDV6? Having 225kw with 700nm would seem perfect, but then I’ve been told to go for the SDV8…there’s more SDV6’s available at the moment though.

Getting the SDV8 guarantees you a few things...( no crank problems.....)
It'll be a HSE, ( far better trim level) It'll have big bad Brembo's ( and 21" wheels) and it'll have a locking rear diff. All worthwhile things. ( maybe not the 21's but 20's do fit)
Every single RRS will be different. There were many many options, would Sir like a solid fuel heater?
Good luck finding one thats not black or white...

I didnÂ’t know about the crank, locking rear diff ect. Well, I was looking at black or white! Haha my last two Cayennes have been Grey and IÂ’m so over it!
