    The reasoning that has always been held is with an engine working hard there were too many complaints about "overheating" and that a suddenly moving gauge was more likely to gain attention than one thats been slowly creeping up, the difference between a hardworking engine pushing 120 V 125 wasnt really noticable..
    I appreciate that you know a lot more than i will ever know about things mechanical,but 135 degrees seems pretty hot....


    For me,doing the 7 second scan,i mean 30 second or every minute or two,i would rather see a guage creeping upwards,than one suddenly going from fine to cooked.

    Anyway,luckily i havent had to worry about an overheating engine,since the day,many years ago,when i drained the coolant out of the GF,now wife's HR,186,then she decided to take it down to the shops to get some milk.About a KM away.Somehow it survived.

    Can confirm 135 is hot....

    Can also confirm that at 160c on the thermostat temp sender the bottom hose of the isuzu is the weak link in the cooling system...

    She still runs.


    Cast iron on cast iron with good oil flow and you can get the edges of the heads glowing... at least, on a 253........ on the farm.... just cause you can....

    I am surprised it still had oil pressure.

    When open drive or large semi hermetic refrigeration/AC compressors get hot,that is hot enough to burn the paint off,they usually trip the oil safety pressure switch,which is why they eventually stop.And on occasions empty the building of occupants as the fire alarm goes off.
    On strip down,the soft solder used on the oil pickup strainers or unloader belows is often in the bottom of the sump.

    All fun and games.

    See the problems in the paint...

    Arkies oil cooled, the oil leaking past the gaskets evaporates off the block, oils got a really high evaportating temp...


    The steam flash out was very, very impressive.
