Ive put a couple posts up, but i have recently bought a 4.4L SDV8 RRS. Had to rebuild the engine (maybe more then once).

Anyway, latest post...

I used to own a 3.0L D4 6 Spd, back then I got cambo from old jaguar to tune the box for me, absolutely loved it! Cam has done a bit of upgrade and support work on my D4 over the years so im a return customer.
Now that the engine is sorted in the RRS, we were having a chat about a audio upgrade and what needs doing for mine to be upper class! We were talking about the car to drive and i said how i had coolant in my box and the shifts are not perfect, after alot of questions cam reminded me that he did tunes for the 8HP as well. Cams opinion was i was paranoid about the coolant and it was normal 8HP behaviour.

Take my money!!
Cam was quick to remind me that the 8dp standard tune is allot better then the 6sp in a D4 and the tune was an improvement but not night and day. me being me, "what can you do with the engine?".

Anyway last night i drove down to Sydney and Cam did his magic on my RRS. engine tune and transmission tune.

The review, Cam is like an old friend, super friendly, transparent and honest, we had a good chat (it was extremely hot) and he got stuck into it. Me being a mechanic, his shed is super tidy and his tooling and cables are so professionally made

Did a test drive, settled the invoice then i left for home.

So the engine, me and cam will probably argue about this forever, but i reckon its smoother, from the minute i started it, we disagree, but i have the trained ear after 2 engine builds and even if its placebo effect, i feel better, when running its definitely smoother, power deliver comes on earlier, you find yourself lifting the pedal sooner, comes off the line with less of a press and starts to go. on the drive from Sydney to Newcastle plenty of chance to test it at different times, the bottom improved, the mid range pull (overtaking etc) is much more powerful, it pulls hard above 3K rpm too, but i don't do that enough to compare to STD, to me feels like a bottom to mid tune, very happy. To settle the argument the power delivery is smoother, the pedal is linear, no crazy jumps in torque, just feels like it does exactly what you asked from it.

The box, the box is a much more refined approach, like the engine, its not night and day, but its noticeable and now exactly what it should be in a car like this, almost CVT like in the changes, locks up early and stays there, on a downhill run it will over take the cruise control, but now because its taking the engine with it, i did a downhill run and tested it, much less run away torque converter stays locked. it still over runs, but the fuel usage is at 0 and the engine revs are rising. also around town when you get off the throttle, you feel it pull ypou up without the brake pedal, again, its subtle but its there. not as defined as a two stroke vs a 4 stroke dirt bike, but its helping.

Overall, Very happy, its not a huge difference, but a much more refined approach to both the engine and box, i have not towed with the changes yet, i am due to take the boat out on Sunday, im looking forward to that.

happy to answer any questions if you have them
