For sure, the aftermarket will get behind it massively, as its going to the US, hopefully we will see jeep levels of accessories.

I used mine to pull down a carport which had to be demolished to make way for our new garages. And to straighten the bullbar on the BIL's 80 after he clouted something and bent it.

Sounds like an advert. Really does reek modern JLR advertising guff. It doesn't help at all with detail unfortunately. Rugged must mean compared to D5 and RR but they would call it rugged if it was 1 percent stronger. Maybee it only has to be as 'rugged' as D5 to be termed rugged...LR call the D5 "tough' on their website...maybe tough is better than rugged. See...all just marketing crap. Cheers.

It a press release, advert, nobody is denying that, how else does a company release info.

Based on the leaked pic of interior of new fender, vid showing underneath, approach, ramp and departure angles , seems like their info has merrit, have you seen anything so far shows otherwise?

D5 is not tough? Can certainly take a beating imo and is an extremely capable offroader. Just about every motor journalist agrees.

34º approach, 30º departure, and 27.5º ramp, more than a foot and a half of wheel articulation, 11.1 inches of ground clearance, and the ability to wade through with its standard bonnet snorkel almost a meter of water. Seen vids of them jumping, underneath they are tough as imo.

All of the above is even before you touch it with any accessories [emoji23].

I'm not 100% a fan of it's standard look yet(took me a while with D3 too) but wait until you see it all barred up when accessories start flowing.

Not pessimistic.. just a realist. It IS advertising fluff. And long bitter history shows vehicle manufturers use whatever words are in the advertising lexicon to garner public interest (especially useful with the wide eyed). We won't know if it's genuinely rugged until we know the specs and it's tested. We hope it's rugged for sure.

I just watched that video...very unimpressive. A Hyundai Sante Fe could do all of that (save the deep wading)...If that is your and LR's measure of Tough then it's not mine. I can't imagine its your idea of a tough offroader given your profile pic... Having said that I imagine the D5 can show off it's toughness (I am using the LR terminology) better than that video thankfully.

Yes, agreed (like the unbreakable Hilux haha).
However I think the real facts show the disco 5 is to a reasonable degree, tough.

The fact that Land Rover thinks they are showing it being used hard proves how little they know about off roading. It shows all light duty use.

The discovery is tough for its class of vehicle.

There are also tough competition vehicles but that is a different class entirely, there are also tough street cars.

I agree the discovery 5 is not most likely the first choice for a weekend harcore 4x4 to hit yalwal 6 stage track, however it is still tough for what it is.

As far as JLR marketing is concerned, they really dont talk it up imo (see pic and link below) They mainly just call it a versatile SUV, very understated imo, I would say all quite factual actually.
