I assume the side vents are to let heat out, as on Range Rovers.
Most of them. Just Google Images Range Rover side vents.
Looking at the rear shot, the roof looks very narrow,as with many modern vehicles, but you do lose a lot of room particularly useful room in the rear. Also less will fit on the roof, particularly if running a RTT,and an awning,as an example.
I thought the side vents on the latest RR,RRS were just for show?
The earlier ones, and D3/4 were used for intake air one side, with the V8 models using both sides.
Agree looks a little narrow at first, however check these photos, could be an illusion.
Current defender, small rear door, large side sections.
New defender, large rear door, smaller side sections
Also from from looks very wide windscreen wise.
Agree with vents, I think RRS SVR bonnet top is vented. Although am not sure re if any others are vented.

It's an illusion, this thing is at least as wide as the Discovery 4. If you have a look at the second of the Instagram posts above:
see the distance between the driver and the passenger? There does actually look to be space for a third person in the middle - that means that it's a lot wider than a Defender. Room for elbows inside the car ...
The Ford explorer was designed when Ford owned LR. There are lots of bits on it that look like they fell off a D3/4, the terrain response knob for starters. They are a big vehicle though, there is at least 30cm more load space than a Disco 3/4 behind the second row seats.
We had one in the US for a couple of weeks in 2014. A very comfortable and nice to drive AWD wagon, zero offroad capability though.
