Are the 4 cylinder Ingenium engines, like in the D5, actually smaller than the 6s? If so, given that the new Defender appears to be D4 sized there could be a bit of space in there.
NB: if you get the hybrid you won't need a second battery. As I belatedly realised when looking at a Tesla X, it already has sufficient battery to run a fridge ...
No I doubt that is the case, A Tesla's 12volt 35Ah battery is not going to run a fridge , you would need to keep the car in 'stay awake' mode to keep the 12v battery charged. And hopefully the DC-DC converter can keep up with the fridge. When the car is parked up it checks in with the 12v battery to keep it charged but I doubt it will be expecting the drain from a Fridge , The most common fault with a Tesla is a flat 12v battery.
A Hybrid has a tiny battery compared to 100% EV , I would not even bother going there , worst of both worlds IMO.
A quick google reveals that people have been running fridges in Teslas using the "RV" mode in which mode they stay on overnight, running in effect from the drive battery. The comment was that using the fridge overnight used 10 miles of charge.
Hybrid night be a different story ...
The DC to DC in a Tesla is more than capable of running a 12v fridge. The 12v battery is so small because all of the 12v systems are effectively powered by the HV battery indirectly via DC DC . And it is available all the time, driving or parked, so long as there is capacity in the main hv battery.
Hybrid seems perfect for most small trips imo, larger trip ice..down the track if full ev is practical for touring then i might consider it.
When i was at a game park in SA, it dawned on me that electric Defenders or cruisers would be awesome as the vehicles are a little noisy trying to watch animals with ICE, i actually couldn't believe they were not doing it...I'm guessing Hybrid will be used with Tusk.
That's what I would've thought.
Edit: and here's a Tesla 12v battery. Apparently there is a constant DC to DC converter.
