The new Defender wont be targeting dual cab utes (because it's not a dual cab ute) or 70 series cruiser (because Toyota is just running out the clock on that anyway). This is the market they will be after.
If you want a nice tractor then the current ones will be around for a very long time. I'm not planning on selling mine anytime soon and with 70k on the clock it's no worse than when it was new. If you need a tough work vehicle than you will have to start looking at the light trucks (Isuzu, Fuso, Iveco). It's just progress and the way the world works and no amount of moaning on the internet is going to change that.
You should just be thankful that they continued to make the old one for as long as they did. At 20,000 units per year or whatever it was they were able to make it would have made financial sense to ditch it many years ago.
Out of curiosity.. How may of the haters have actually bought a brand new Land Rover in the last 5 years? At the end of the day they are a company that needs to make money and they make no money off people who buy 20YO TD5's and D2's.
