And, I venture to suggest, probably has a higher roof area /volume ratio, and more steeply sloping windscreen that is also larger compared to the volume. Roof colour is only one factor in how hot a vehicle gets inside - but it is the easiest one to change when buying, or even after purchase.

Those types of posts are what this site is about.

This is a public forum, people have their opinions and views.

What i don't think people on here want to see is continual, long winded, ongoing posts criticising and 'bashing' other brands.

Its not what this place is about.
A lil history lesson, dissing land rovers one too many times will get a response, especially when not factual.

As most know, the track massively(4inches!) different front to back

Uncomfortable and restrictive leafs that hang under rear axle housing.

    Fix both above $10k

Alternator that fails on nearly every decent offroad trip(Last a few weeks in mines) $3k fix to watercooled

Starter in valley fails if you get water into bonnet vent as it doesn't drain out and starter dies. No fix I've heard and very very hard to get to.

no auto option, trucklike manual* high rpm @ 110kph auto fix but good conv $20k

fake snorkel factory let's water in, safari 4inch fix

bad handbrake, Nissan patrol Mark's 4x4 fix.

Injectors are very susceptible to dirt and water, need high quality pre filter.

Basically fundamentally badly engineered driveline leaves you fighting two different ruts on beach and unstable rear on hills, fundamental parts of engine are unreliable due to location of Alt and starter and fuel setup, snorkel that is meant for water crossing causes engine failure if not fixed. Handbrake can cause death.

They lift front wheels like crazy on steep hills especially when loaded and gets even worse with 79 traybacks that get heavy canopy added by most.

Injectors can leave you stranded in the outback.

Most above fixable but you must add all that onto the purchase price if you want to use it offroad properly. Above is already around 35-40k.

Real price new is 100k if you want to address some of the issues, thats before you start the real mods that everyone does to them to try and keep up with the landies in the ruff stuff ha.

    125k easy with mods.

    In Gwagon commercial territory now.

Now defenders have their problems too, but I don't remember them being anywhere near as long or as fundamentally bad as the above.

Or for 100k you could get a good LR shop to build a very reliable big lap capable low k 2015/2016 defender with all the fruit.

For 125k you would have a dream Defender,Disco, Rangie with LS3/6L80 or your choice of desiel/auto, Ford 9 rear and all the fruit.

Just my take on reality, don't mean to offend, just what I've heard from others and mechsnics that work on them, maybe Toyota has fixed some of the above, however they are certainly not a step up from a built defender if real 4x4 and touring is what your into imo.

Many know the well documented issues with the last model.Finished.

Other brands of vehicles have issues as well.Finished.

You said you got the point. Finished, then you go back to calling it "other brand bashing", hence not getting the point and starting again.

If you bring up other brands as being better when they are not, i and others will "defend" its a LR forum Won’t be retro...

A LR forum is not the place to say continual negative things about defenders and almost zero positive about anything JLR, whether you have one in your sig or not. Its a place for people to connect, help each other and discuss what is to come in a generally positive light.

Veebs is spot on and sometimes you need long winded posts for people to provide facts for others to get the point, without facts its just opinion.

I do agree with your later posts though - there is no perfect vehicle. I'm perfectly happy with my D4 because it suits my (our) use. Obviously, it doesn't suit other people, just as a 76 series won't adorn my driveway any time soon.

I am excited at the prospect of the new defender being what looks like (or intended to look like) the spiritual successor to the D4. I do feel for the true old-school Defender owners - I've been there. When the D5 came out, my heart broke too.
I love that there are other brands on the trail and have mates with toyotas, nissans rangers, tritons, navaras and respect them all and treat them like their car is on par or better than mine, but if one of them talks rubbish about my car and never says anything nice about it and that thiers is the only reliable car out thier etc, they are guna get some facts and they are probably not my mate Won’t be retro....

Yes this is the type posts we want to see.

As for the other above it,i am not going to go around in circles again..

That is the type of post that is done to death, and not needed, and not wanted on this site.

More than likely,if they continue, they might actually start to disappear.

RACQ's point was that the difference of 3.1c was insignificant - both as a % and from the point of view of a child or pet locked in a car.

So basically its a non issue then. A few degrees is something but the temp difference is nowhere as much as what people think, ill cancel the white wrap I was going to add to the roof then Won’t be retro...Won’t be retro...

    Gday All,

There has been several reports to the mod team of late about the direction this thread is headed. As a simple suggestion , maybe get back to the topic of the new Defender and some factual info about it , leave the maybe's , could be's , wanna be's , and the brand bashing to more relevant threads, and if there isn't a thread on those topics , then maybe there is the simple reason of, most on the forum don't care for that type of conversation.

Its a good thread with some helpful insights , don't make the mod team take action to change that.

    Enjoy the topic

    Cheers Ean

Ean, but is it not the same as almost every thread on Aulro? They all seem to go off on a tangent.

True, but most threads that go off tangent DONT generate the amount of reports to the mods that this thread has. If it continues the mods will have to step in.

All I am saying is try and stick to the topic , and take the personal side out of it. We are after all talking about something that hasn't been released yet

    Cheers Ean
