What's that mean, apparently MLA is from release with the defender, so more than likely fully electric option from day 1?

By 2025 most of the other models will have also moved to MLA.

Yes they might come out with a full EV Defender in 2020 (I hope they do) to compete with Rivian etc, but my hunch is that it will be a hybrid initially with full EV in around 2024 once the networks of charging points are better established. Hybrid EV’s make sense for working vehicles that have long haul duties.

By 2025 EV’s will be the norm and it will become difficult to sell/buy a new ICE vehicle IMO. But Hybrid EV’s will probably still be available. ...I still think all this will happen faster than most expect.

Apart from the DC100 debacle (pre the race to EVs) it seems pretty clear that the delay in releasing the new Defender has been the rapid shift towards EV’s and JLR re-thinking the platform / EV compatibility future of all vehicles post 2020.

Sounds reasonable but i think its more rivian competing with LR considering Rivian is a new company with nothing in the market yet. I think JLR may want to come all guns blazing with a first to market full proper 4x4 full electric as option from day one to maximize marketing effect and be ahead of the pack. As said im on the hybrid bandwagon, idle around for next to nothing where you spend most of the time and only fuel up when you need to.

LR already have the hybrid system for sale in the RRS so that's easy for the Defender.
Wonder why Suzuki don't do a five door Jimny?

There was talk of it, but then it wouldn't be a jimny it would be a Japanese Jeep 🤣
They will stay with their roots and keep it compact like most of their cars

I think current hybrid is on a different platform, MLA is a completely new platform which defender is believed to be one of the first to run.

Not sure on suzi looks in 4 door, looks a little out of proporsion.

Suzi works as a 2 door for what it is.

I reckon they would be very popular, if remain around that price bracket.

I most definitely agree but not my cup of tea personally looks wise, but it would be much more practical. They also have or had a ute in the works but probably wont go ahead but you never know.

    In-Line 6

    Hi All,

I know that it's been mentioned before that Jag are releasing a straight six - but I received an email last night that in part reads:

"the new inline six cylinder Ingenium engine introduced for the Range Rover Sport. Not only does it have a twin-scroll turbo charger, it also features an electric supercharger. It also has a mild-hybrid (MHEV) powertrain - coming out in the Evoque 2 soon"

Imagine that in a Sport Defender!
88 Perentie FFR - Club Rego
    93 Discovery 1 200 Tdi - Club Rego
    03 130 Td5 Single Cab
    06 Discovery 3 Petrol
    22 Defender 90 - Full rego

An Ingenium 6 MHEV in Defender would be good as an interim engine prior to EV, ...if it can reduce fuel consumption to around 5L/100km. Otherwise it defeats the purpose of having a MHEV.

I’m still getting over the disappointment of my new fandangled ECU managed 2.2L 2014 Defender (11-12L/100km) using more fuel than my trusty 2.5L 300 Tdi (10L/100km)! LOL.

The sooner an EV / hybrid conversion is available for classic Defenders the better IMO.
