    Haha, he has unique style thats for sure, and so do LR's, im guessing thats why we all buy them.

    Point was that the CEO and in effect JLR have talked a big talk, now they have to live up to it both from a legal and ethical standpoint.

    Im sure he understands a lot more than most of us combined in that job, most certainly more than me.

    JLR have smashed it out of the park over the last 10 or so years including what they did with the final V1 defender, credit where credit is due.

    Defender v2 looks to be another home run from where I'm sitting Won’t be retro...

    I rather doubt it - don't forget they ran the company from the start of the Depression, and had already saved the company in the 1930s by exactly the same policy that saw the Discovery introduced - sell to the upper middle class. And in any case, the Discovery was just re-entering the market that Rangerover had made from nothing twenty years earlier, but had abandoned by moving up market.

    I have to disagree. JLR have totally dropped the ball on Defender for the past 20+ years. That’s why they lost massive market share to Toyota and why we’re in the current debate re Defender.

    McGovern is a one trick luxury SUV pony.

    Each to his own mate, LR is not just about the defender they have and im pretty sure nearly ever defender lover on earth would disagree with you. Infact the most desirable defenders are the last 90 and 110's, yes they have a few issues if that, but so does every other make.

    My mate recently switched from a 93 to a 2012 defender, the difference is worlds apart in a good way.

    The newer dash, smoother engine, more gears, aircon that works, electric windows,alarm central locking, nice interior, better exterior looks etc etc. Sits on the freeway all day at 110kph up any hill, goes anywhere and its stock other than tyres Won’t be retro...

    All he had to do was add lube mod to adapter shaft.

    He loves it.

    JLR dont go after the same market as Toyota, the defender is very different to a 79, the 200 series is no RRV, they are all in different classes so no point comparing market share.

    At one point it seemed like nearly every person on earth had an iphone, it didnt make them the best becuase they sold the most. The samsung became better every year feature wise, but most people fell for the marketing and didn't want to be different.

    All of JLRs cars are for the discerning buyer and are usually best in each class, and yes there are multiple classes of vehicle. Unless you want to call a kluger and a 200 series the same class Won’t be retro...

    Factory, Well actually not really as said in last post is a Rav 4 or a Kluger a 200 series? No different classes.

    How does JLR not have classes, they are very clearly defined. And the classes will get even broader in the future.
    Is an evoque a D5, no, is it in the same class, no.

    The new defender will make the above distinction even more so into dual purpose.

    They are not intending to make a dedicated work truck with new fender if you want want buy a 130 or a 79.

    All current model Land Rovers look the same to me. They’re just different sizes. Same class - luxury SUV.

    I own two Defenders from different eras. They are basically the same vehicle almost 20 years apart. The newer one is much more complex in terms of electronics and with some sub-standard driveline parts, and it uses more fuel than the older simpler one. I’ve now rectified most of the issues and love the puma.

    The biggest difference between them is the old one is noisy and rattly. The new one is a much more pleasant place to be on long journeys. But in another 15 years the newer one will be noisy and rattly too.

    Toyota 70 Series has always been Defenders main competitor. It hasn’t changed much either. The main reason Defender didn’t sell as many as Toyota is poor customer service and marketing, including the shift to focussing primarily on the luxury urban market and not taking the Defender work market or the size of the Australian continent seriously. That’s where they dropped the ball.

    The small niche of wierdy beardies like me liked Defender and could see benefits of the vehicle over the competitors. But the majority wanted something less sophisticated as a work vehicle, with a large dealer network.

    The next Defender will be even more complex and alienate the simple work vehicle market even further. Having said that, if it’s a true HD work vehicle with progressive EV tech and not just another luxury SUV, I’d be interested.

    ABSOLUTE BULL**** Pumas are plagued with issues. , If I was buying another defender I definetly would not buy a Puma. Only 10 year old They have more issues than 20 & 30 year old Td5's and Tdi's . they are crap in my opinion.
