I've been travelling this continent for 30 years... 20 of those in a Defender 110. Everything you need for two fits easily in the back behind the seats, including swags. With back seat passengers, bags can go in the back and the swags can go on the roof rack. I've never understood why people take so much stuff! Less is more out bush IMO.

...it would all depend on how the Jimny rides on the highway for long distance journeys IMO.

I saw a lime green Jimny near my house last week, look ok in the metal but still a tad too small. As a solo play vehicle they will be ok.

Rivian R1S is more exciting as a Defender competitor IMO. ...2020 is looking interesting.

From what we've seen of new Defender, in this company it already looks retro.

    Two kids?

My parents toured extensively in Australia with 4 kids, for well over 10yrs,in the SWB S1...

It did tow a wooden trailer on occasions.

    Lots of remote area travel.

No fridges, big heavy canvas tents, lots of fun though.

And in those days, fuel, supplies, etc, were not on the next corner,so we had to be pretty self sufficient.

Steane from Loaded4x4 had one to play with a week or so back and said they've damn near eliminated pitching, he said the thing rides and drives really well for a SWB.

Now you mention it,yes small rack on sometimes, bolted to tropical roof i think from memory.

It was hated as the vehicle wouldn't fit in the garage with it on.

I remember the old man glueing 2c pieces over the bolt holes with araldite once the rack was got rid of for good.

Don't often look on the roof, but i will have a look to see if the coins are still there

Yeah i think we were discussing the Rivian last year here

Well the spare tyre is in the right spot,

RS1 is my pick(looks like a rangie), but by next year a Rivian wont be practical in OZ, I highly doubt AU will see them in 2020, i think it was US/UK first from memory if they stick to that date, but things change, who knows. As we have seen with Tesla its one thing to promise a revolutionary vehicle by a certain date, its another thing to live up to it.

Hybrid is the go at the moment imo. Even if full electric fenda is an option to purchase at release mid this year, i would still go hybrid.
Down the track when you can do a big lap on electric with fast chargers or battery tech allows way more range, then maybe ill look at full electric fenda or Rivian if its better than the EV Fenda.
