There are 100s of things which cause cancer. Maybe we should ban smoking and alcohol! Where do we stop? As for the new defender, I hope it's good.
Isn't smoking all but banned publicly haha.

I think we should stop when the earth runs as it was designed and humans stop dying prematurely.

But mate, hear ya, I love V8s and the sound and get the attraction of a simple diesel, going to be hard to give all that up, however the ingenuim 6 petrol turbo/supercharged will no doubt have a pretty sweet note. As will gliding around locally in silence when i want to.

JLR 2019 releases and 2023 plans

    Road Rover?

Defender 2019 release, I think they will release by mid year for a few reasons, I don't see why the would wait longer.

    Stop what?

    Where are the designs?

When is death not premature? I'd like to know the cut off point. And is there an age when you are overdue?

I might want a room full of diesel smoke if I crumble my way past 100. Instead I will be surrounded by autonomous EVs that will refuse to run me over.

My attempt at a joke about the 4bd1 aside, as an American I see quite the opposite in the States. Yes, in large metropolitan downtown areas it can get a glance sideways, but half the time that is due to the vehicle (Defender) being uncommon more than Diesel. Take a ride across the States and you will see diesels as THE workhorse most everywhere else, be they in a Rover, a Ford, a GMC or otherwise. The nation runs on them and while EV is nice and has its place, even new diesels are being released in the States. There's a Porsche Cayan diesel, VW has several and for true trucks there's almost always a diesel option. Even Cummins has gotten on the bandwagon for repowering with a 2.8liter crate version - do you think they would release that and go to all the trouble if diesel was going the way of the dodo?

I hope you're right but what exactly has been 'seen so far' ?

The Defender market was small before, what will make the new Defender suddenly a big seller ?

I with you, in Australia they will find it hard convincing non landy owners to switch.

“From what we’ve seen so far” ...well, terrible sales of classic Defender (only to the truly discerning) and nothing tangible Re the new Defender.

Yes all we can do is ‘wait and see what they come up with’ ...or speculate. LOL.

Will it sell? If it’s awesome it will. If it’s not it won’t. If it’s another yuppy SUV it will start off ok but will die in the arse because there are so many other yuppy SUV’s to choose from.

...sorry, I mean, we’ll just have to wait and see.

But for sure it ill have a fully blown V12 dieselgate hybrid. Either that or a 1.1L PHEV... I mean for sure! from what we’ve seen.

Diesel is dead as soon as battery range improves or hydrogen cells cost comes down.
The thing to watch is that the prices of electricity and of hydrogen (which is made using electricity) will soar as demand increases. As things stand, the majority of our electricity comes from the burning of fossil fuels. Trying to replace our stationary energy with clean sources is hard enough, replacing our transport energy too requires enormous amounts of expansion in the electricity sector.

If you want these good things to happen, ie cheap, clean, abundant energy including for transportation, we're going to have to invest in a lot of nuclear. Until that happens, the options are to keep burning oil-based fuels or to stop driving.
