Load it up and take a trip to Cape Leveque , Wolfe creek crater or Kalumburu , The sidewall of a tyre is a important part of a vehicles suspension, And 18" tyres have none, let alone 20" tyres. Showing diagrams wont alter the facts.

Theres no chassis flex either which is another bad point ( yes I know no LandRover has any Chassis Flex) so the suspension will be ****ed after half an hour during any proper off road driving. The sidewalls need some depth so they can do their job.

Its not the outside diameter or tread pattern that makes an off road tyre good , its the depth of sidewall.

Yep , I can see the headline now, JLR new Pretender , stuck in some remote town in WA, the NT , or anywhere outside the big capital cities because JLR released them with some odd-ball tyre size that no one outside the big 2 capital cities stocks. Wouldn't be the first time its happened and likely wont be the last.

I cant see many tyre dealers in the NT stocking some low profile 20 inch tyre , hard enough getting any size other than whats standard on Toyota or the Ford Ranger.

That 20" tyre size seen in the pics,as far as i can see,aren't even available in this country....

I find it amazing that people are canning a vehicle and its wheel size before we even know what it is actually going to be fitted with.

Wow , everything in this thread is all based on the same thing as the wheel size assumptions. The car hasn't been released yet but you wouldn't think so with some of the stuff in this thread....

Im guessing it has a lot to do with the endless pictures posted with low profile tyres on the test vehicles Garry.

I'm sure if we needed an unusual tyre size in the NT the same thing would happen as with parts for vehicles, including Toyota - it would be flown in from a capital city.

errr...how do low profile tyres allow for larger brakes?

the tyres have nothing to do with the size of the brakes.

Fairly simple - Low profile tyres generally means large diameter wheels (to maintain similar overall diameter of donut) which gives room for larger brakes.

True of course but you can only fit a certain size tyre in the guards...so bigger calipers, sidewall suffers if OD remains within reaonable limits.
