It has an entirely new engine that had low emissions as a primary design criterion, it weighs less, and has significantly lower drag, so if it does not have lower consumption, the design has failed. Let's see how range is in reality once there are some actually on Australian roads.

The same diesel engines have been in the lighter D5 for a while,and going on reports,it isn't that frugal.
