Hmm maybe the middle one? It looks pretty good, better than I thought it would be. Too much $$ and tech for me though.

I'd edit it if i could.. and add in "perhaps when 2nd hand ones are available"

I think it will be a huge success. I may have to sell a kidney or another organ to buy one.

The 2 big things that make the defender a defender.

    Its easy to work on.

    you can hose it out...

the first is a relative thing but it started to go with the td5 and was gone with the ford.

the second may actually be coming back BUT you have to buy a special version...

the tech in and of itself isn't scary to me but for it to count as defender in my book you need to be able to at least fully diagnose it to a running state on the side of the road with nothing other than what comes in the standard vehicle pack and suitable education.

IF the dash has the inboard brains and read outs to handle fault codes what they are and reset them then thats a big tick...

BUT it also needs to be all mostly easily accessable If I need to change a turbo or other major engine sub assembly I shouldnt need to pull the body off or the engine out and the same should be said for most of the major sub assemblies.

Dunno about "hose" out, but one of the LR guys is on YouTube giving a tour of the vehicle and he makes the point that most 4WDs put carpet on the floor then offer you rubber mats to go on top which is backwards. This Defender has rubber floors throughout the seating areas and flush door sills so you can "sweep or wipe" clean. Carpet mats are optional to go on top of the rubber.

On the back of the 2nd row seats and the floor of the boot there's a tough non-carpet surface but it isn't rubber, and beneath the loadspace is a compartment which holds batteries for the electric motor assist... so possibly not water friendly there. You can get a full rubber loadspace protector though.

Provided you can give the car Internet access (built-in SIM, or via Wi-Fi to your satellite phone or whatever) you can get diagnostic assistance, I heard.

And given that this is a full monocoque design, you definitely won't ever have to take the body off for repair work
I wouldn't be surprised if there are some hard-to-access parts though.

Looks good but too many dollars for me (Not so worried about the tech - computers have been in cars for decades now). We looked at a 90 back in 2010 and could get one for under $40K back then (Bare bones basic). With inflation, that should be around $47K now but that’s not even close. As I suspected this is aimed at the top end of town and the average Joe won’t even come close to being able to afford one at almost double this and beyond. Inflation may have risen but not that much - I just checked...

That in my book makes a little bit of a mockery of the name IMO. Pity as I really like it, but LR have shown that this is all a money grab from the wealthiest.

Have you got a quote? Also you can't imo compare a the old defender to the new defender price wise, its a far more advanced car in just about every way.

Not suitable for collecting firewood, and suffers from the fact that there are a lot of farm items that are illegal to carry in a closed passenger space. I have to agree with Blcknight's assessment.

I suspect it will sell well, but not to the people who would have bought the old Defender. But it will depend on local dealers to keep this up.

From what I see so far, it is a real design advance in the same way that the original Landrover and Rangerover were, but not targeted at the same buyer as the original Landrover, more targeted at the original Rangerover buyer.
