I wonder if it can it be hacked by internet nerds with wifi downloads and shut down-ransom, that it would require a factory reboot.
that would be weird with all these computers it has. just a thought as computer systems are always under attack.

Here is another page from the 2002 edition of Land Rover's Working in the Wild. Note the sentence "KEEP IT SIMPLE". How things have changed.

You’ve only got to compare a modern smartphone with phone from 2002 to see that. And how reliable the modern units are. Or for real change - look at weather. And how quickly it seems change is upon us.

Good point but I don't have a phone.....except the phone on the kitchen wall. I do know that people "upgrade/change" their phone every few years. Don't understand why but it seems to be the norm. Seems cars are marketed to the same customer base. Buy it then in a few years "upgrade".
My point in posting the above was a little tongue in cheek. The same company that was espousing simplicity is now flaunting how complicated the new model is. I know things change but it is ironic when the past comes back to haunt you.
As you can no doubt guess the new Defender holds no interest for me but for anyone that likes it I hope it brings them many years of motoring pleasure. My Puma will see me O.K. until I have to give up driving. That is adventure enough for me. My 200 tdi is 27 years old and drives wonderfully so I will be in good company for the length of road I have left. The series 111, is well a series 111 and still trundling. If the new Defender gives it's purchasers as much service and enjoyment as my older Land Rovers have given me, well they cannot ask for more than that. I wish them well.

This bias against electronics is about 15 years out of date. Single board embedded computers very rarely fail and can be swapped out easily. Sensors can be cleaned, repaired or replaced. Connectors can be cleaned and resoldered. Mechanical dohickies that could break have been replaced by ECUs that hardly do. Diagnosis of mechanical faults that once took a Ouija board now only needs a scan tool. Anyone doing “proper” off-roading always takes a selection of spares. What’s wrong with adding an ECU and some sensors to the pack list?

I have a set of Goodride SL 369 tyres on a series 111 88 and am very happy with them. I cannot say how they would perform on something larger/heavier/faster than an 88 but I can only state my own positive experience with them.

I am starting to like this new beast even more.
