Would you post the part you think it doesn’t comply with?

    11. EXTERNAL OR INTERNAL PROTRUSIONS

11.1. No vehicle must be equipped with:

    11.1.1. any object or fitting, not technically essential to such vehicle, which protrudes from any part of the vehicle so that it is likely to increase the risk of bodily injury to any person;

    11.1.2. any object or fitting technically essential to such vehicle unless its design, construction and conditions and the manner in which it is affixed to the vehicle are such as to reduce to a minimum the risk of bodily injury to any person;

11.1.3. any object or fitting which, because it is pointed or has a sharp edge, is likely to increase the risk of bodily injury to any person; or

11.1.4. any bumper bar the end of which is not turned towards the body of the vehicle to a sufficient extent to avoid any risk of hooking or grazing.

100% the ladder is tech essential, how else are you going to get onto the roof, not just into a rooftop tent.

The storage box is flexible and round

Ladder with its stowaway design has also been designed for pedestrians, safety and wind resistance.

Can't see any problems on both fronts in context of this thread.

Therefore, Perenties would not be legal with their huge front and rear protruding points on bars, or their bonnet ornaments.

I think the side storage box is a naff gimmick. The ladder may be necessary if you buy a Land Rover tent, but most rooftop tents come with a ladder incorporated anyway.

Aren't military vehicles exempt from those regulations?

In WA they won’t allow those protrusions to remain unless you “smooth” them out.

Rear tow bars must also be removed by law when not in use... The New Defender

In ALL of the recent and current Perentie auctions, they are removing:

    Bonnet tools
    Bonnet tool holders
    Front lift points
    Rear lift points
    Rear pintle hook
    Side baskets (RSFV)

Why? Because the vehicles are being knocked back for registration in WA (worst), SA (next worst), VIC, etc...

It’s getting difficult to register an “original” Perentie due to these “protrusions”

There are arguments that the Perenties passed ADRs at the time of manufacturing (1988).

But they are getting difficult to register..

Tombie is on the money - it would be interesting to get a new Defender registered with the side ladder and basket.

Don’t get me wrong - I love the new Defender and am still waiting on the ‘90.

    It shall be interesting....

There is an argument that military vehicles aren’t technically registered. They are given permits to drive on public roads.

I am not 100% sure but that is what I have heard.

The problem is - if you get a registration official who digs their heals in, you will have problems.

In the same vein - if you get pulled over by a policeman who’s having a bad day, you will have problems.

    Different states have different rules.

But there are plenty of Perentie owners who have experienced these 2 problems.

    FYI - I have a Perentie....

    The New Defender

Perenties didn’t pass ADRs at time of construction, they operated under exemptions like most military vehicles.

Once Military becomes civvy it needs to comply with basics.

And EVERY Perentie with the protruding lugs breaches the current laws regarding protrusions.
