Interesting, the air intake seems to go from the side vent then towards the front of the engine. Not a labyrinth design as on L405, L462, L494 where the the air is taken in above the headlights into the bonnet cavities then down through the guards. It may leave open the possibility that the RAI on Defender could actually be sealed against water.

Apparently the raised air intake is a sealed unit according to my dealer, But it does not increase the wading depth officially.

These two look like they're tearing down one of the test units to see what may have broken...Definitely look like it's had mud all the way through it.

Yeah its all from a separate company that does the cutouts.. agreed, looks like they gave them a thrashed one that's had its doors open in the mud.

Thinking today that it's fortunate I'm not looking to replace our Defender any time soon, because it appears Land Rover no longer makes the vehicle I would want to buy - a basic, tough, roomy workhorse - at an affordable price.
LR has moved the Defender into a different category of vehicle - luxury SUV. I'm sure it's a great vehicle, but it's in a different class to the previous Defender. I'm sure JLR has done it's market research and knows who will buy it, but it's not the same people who bought the previous Defender, I think.
If I were looking for a new vehicle of that type I would have to look for something like an Isuzu D-Max or Holden Colorado.
I was looking at a D-Max parked near us today and thinking, if I got the specifications right, it could probably meet our needs, at a significant discount on the cost of a new Defender.
Fortunately I don't have to make that choice.

Sounds like a 5seater 110 defender commercial on coils would suit you nicely, spec wise and price wise if and when you do decide to trade.

I don't angree at all that they have moved the new defender into the category of vehicle luxury SUV.

From what I have seen spending many hours on the build configurator, you can spec the Defender from very utilitarian and basic through to luxury in a similar way the Prado can be spec'd for instance, but just to a much greater degree.

Also I think that these polar opposites available under the defender will become much greater with the commercial when it is released in Australia.

But if that still doesn't float your boat and something else does thats the old beauty is in the beerholder coming into play The New DefenderThe New Defender
