    Thoughts on the L663 2026 landrover 110 D350 X-Dynamic HSE

    Afternoon Folks,

I currently have an MY08 2007 D3 SE TDV6 which I purchased new and it has been for the most part a good vehicle, I know it well and can do a quite a bit of work on it myself. I'm biased but I still love it.

Given its age I need to give consideration to replacing it. I have a 14ft caravan, weights 2200kg loaded and I need to be able to fit some of my RC planes in the back of a vehicle to go to my RC model flying club and to events.
I want comfort and a few mod cons as well as we all do.

Only vehicle I have been looking at closely was the Ford Everest Platinum 3.OL which is basically a very similar donk to the D4 3.0L. 10 speed and looks be suitable.
Its GVM, GCM and payload though are less than the D3 and that worries me and would possibly need a GVM/GCM upgrade and levelling airbags to keep it level when the caravan is on. I have seen similar vans on these and rear end was sagging.
One advantage is there are lots of dealers including where I live.

    Or . . .

Consider a 2026/27 landrover 110 D350 X-Dynamic HSE. I really do not know much about these apart from a couple of Youtube vids I have watched.
GVM / GCM and payload are all superior to the D3 and obviously the Everest. No upgrades required nor expensive "extras: apart from Anderson lead and Brake controller though I would re-purpose from the D3 anyway.

I'd be very grateful for considered opinions on the L663 with the D350 engine.

Reliability, any show stoppers, what is good or run away fast!
Down side is dealer network and how LR treats customers. Closest dealer to me is on Sunshine Coast QLD. Approx 2.5 hours away.

    cheers
    Peter

I've had a MY21 D350 L405 for a year, specifically with the D350 engine because it isn't a Ford engine. I've only read of 1 failure and that engine was full of muck so not surprising that it failed. The Ingenium has computer-controlled oil pressure which increases with load on the bearings, not revs, which I like providing it keeps working. The engine is smooth and economical for everyday driving but it has only towed our 2T tare van once so I'm short on experience towing the van. This vehicle replaced a MY12 4.4TDV8 L322 which towed the van well.

Switching-off stop-start every startup was a bit annoying, mostly due to the slow start-up of the displays once the gearbox was no longer in Park, but has now been set to last-user-mode using a G4 Gap tool so stays off unless switched on. However I understand that Gap haven't yet overcome OBD/module access restrictions on the MY26 L663 so don't count on being able to switch it off permanently.

A L663 with the D350 would have suited my purpose better than the L405 but I was over-ruled.

thanks mate for the feedback and yes the start / stop would annoy the heck out of me unless I could permanently disable it.
Ingenium engines as a whole do not seem to have a good reputation but that seems to be the smaller 4 cylinder version with all the issues.
Is the D350 a dry timing belt or is it wet?

Hopefully GAP come up with the interface solution soon becuase if I did get one of these a GAP tool would be first thong to buy. I have one for the D3.

I don't have a "minister for war and finance" so no issues being overruled except by myself.

    cheers

The early 4-cylinder had timing chain sprocket failures until stronger sprockets were introduced. The 6-cyclinder didn't emerge until later and haven't had any general issues although there was a batch with impeded camshaft oil supply due to a machining fault. No Ingeniums have a wet belt.
People who have had the opportunity to compare the ride of L460 RRs and the L663 have noted that the L460 is more supple.
The L663 is tallish so my Llams kits that can lower the vehicle to the bump-stops are quite popular in places like France to allow them to fit in their low ceiling garages. I would have had to lower a L663 to the bump-stops for my wife to get in and out but it might have still been too high to fit under my carport.

Thanks mate, appreciate the feedback. A RRS is way out of my budget and the L663 is up there but doable.

I have a double garage that the D3 gets into in normal height mode even with the awning and LR roof racks fitted so would expect a L663 to also fit nicely.
D3 has LLAMS fitted and when I was doing a bit of beach and off road work with it they were handy, now only time I use them is for super low car parks or to make it easy to get my elderly Mum in the D3.

Are LLAMS available for a L663 yet? Not sure I would really need them but who knows? It's all research at present and I'm about 12 months from any decision point.

    cheers

I'm a D300 owner and the D350 is the same engine. Love it especially for towing 3T in comfort
As far as support goes I've had nothing but excellent service from the dealer I purchased from also LRA recently approved a no cost replacement engine for the owner of a D250 whose engine lunched itself 6 months after warranty expired.
There is a LLAMs. I had one on my D4 but haven't felt the need for it on the L663.

Llams for the L663 became available quite soon after the L663 release, with specific L663 calibrations to lower to the bump-stops with the combination of access height and extra low.
