    FYI the following are nominal tyre sizes for 16" rims for the more common tyres used.

    Width Aspect Diameter Fitment
    (mm) Ratio (ins)
    225 x 75 = 29.3
    235 x 70 = 29.0 Std Discovery
    245 x 70 = 29.5
    245 x 75 = 30.5
    255 x 75 = 31.1
    235 x 85 = 31.7 Std Defender
    Also,
    7.50R16 = 31.0

    Maybe we'll have to agree to disagree Baz - nothing much in it anyway.
    I don't know where you got your figures from but if you do the maths and also physically compare the two tyres - you will find that the 235x85xR16 is slightly larger in dia than a 7.50R16.

    I think you will find it depends on the tyres you are comparing to. When I got my 7.50x16 Firestone SATs, they were just as tall as a set of 255x85R16 BFG Mud Terrains.

    According to the tyre calculator

    255/85/16 are 33.06 inches or 839.72 mm

    I know that, I run 255/85/16's on my 90. The tread on the SAT's was over an inch deep when they were new. My half warn SAT's are only just smaller than my 33x10.5x15 Silverstone MT117 Extremes that have 95% tread. As I said, it all depends on what tyres you are comparing.
