Lou, it's not out of the question, but unfortunately, unless a generous whip around is done at the next meeting, it will have to go to the committee to decide if it is to come out of the club coffers.
it sux i know, but i don't know if there's any way around it.

    Lou,
I wouldn't know what to offer or where to start.

if the show is still on (waiting on confirmation), one of my main aims while I'm down there is to stay the hell away from the affected areas and keep out of the way of the people that are helping the affected people and cleaning up.

I'm pretty sure there will be some sort of donation facility at Wandin, if i do take anything down, it will be on a personal note to get some stuff to Toni's uncle who has lost everything, but then there's the challenge of finding where he actually is, people have been moved into tent cities and could be anywhere.

I'm just watching the news now and dickheads are looting the evacuated houses.
man there are some low lifes around!

I'm hoping that I may get the oportunity to go down and help through work.......

leading on from RMP's post........maybe its something our club should consider a sub group for disaster relief etc....bit like what the VIC club have done...this is kind of what I was getting at in the orginial post as I figured the VIC club would be doing something...

The club we were in...in the uk just after we left also did a similiar thing...they went and helped at the bad floodings they had in the uk

I think they were smiled upon as they had vehicles that could get to areas that emergancy services couldn't there for clearing routes etc....with their winchs and such forth.

I put my name down on the RSPCA evacutation of animals each year in bush fire season.......i just think that maybe we can offer services as a club in such times of need....maybe not in VIC at this point but maybe have something in place for NSW should the need ever occur

Following on from lue's idea could the LROC (Syd) not form some sort of

team (like the Vic 4wd clubs) that liaise with.Govs departments or the vic

boys, that respond to emergency's like floods, fires ect to assist in the clean

up work after the emergency services have done their bit.

I am sure there are a lot of people in the club with the skills that could

assist, in some way...Just an idea

    Tony,
yep, we have already begun talks with the association and tcis (our insurance company) as to the feasability of it.
victoria is way ahead of us on things like this and it may take a bit of time to formulate. it's something i have wanted to do for a couple of years now, but i obviously went about it the wrong way.
the only problem i can see is that the "club" will sign up for a program like this, everyone at the meeting will think it's a good idea but when it comes to the crunch and we are actually required to do something, it will be the same 10-15 people that volunteer for things, that will be stuck with the job, everyone else will have a "really good excuse" why they can not help out.
not pointing the finger at any individuals, this happens in every club and even on the association level. it roughly works out at an average of 3% of the membership will actually get off their bums when called apon. following from that, a further 28% will sit back, do nothing and criticise, about 10% will only participate if there is something material in it for them, about 30% will only go on trips and then only if someone else organises them and there is also 30% that do not have anything to do with the club at all. some of these members fall into more than one group.

i reckon a psychology student could do a thesis on "club" mentality and end up with a nobel prize.
