Diana, make sure that you refer to the box's serial number when ordering parts (particular with regard to gears), as LR had a multitude of variants for the LT230. Here are Ashcroft's words on how to find the serial number:
"The serial number will be stamped in one of 2 possible places, either on the bottom left of the main casing or on the earlier vehicles right at the bottom of the left hand side face of the main casing obscured by the exhaust pipe in which case you will need a knife (to scrape the muck off) and a mirror. You are looking for Eg. "28D123456E...".
At the moment I wont be dissassembling the County LT230, just connecting it to the Disco R380. The issue is this plate thingo on the rear of the D1 mainshaft and should I get one for the County LT230.
Here is the plate, I think it is what Bush65 suggested someting to do with lubricating the input shaft.
evening diana :)
that is the landrover released oil slinger plate mod to overcome mainshaft wear, prior to the drilled input gears being available. the important thing to remember when fitting it is the o ring around the outside needs to be fitted, and the top oil inlet slot is not to be obstructed by silicon seants etc.
yes it is interchangeable to the disco r380, it even fits with the lt77 but the thread needs to be cut off the end of the mainshaft first...
they worked very well, but iirc are difficult to obtain now.

Hi Justin
The plate was on a D1 R380/LT230 - I'm replacing the D1 LT230 with a County LT230 to change the ratio.
Assuming what you have said I should be able to use the oil slinger plate with the County230/R380 hybrid.
While where your here. There are two clutch friction plates listed, would you use the Defender 130 plate for my SIIb forward control this box is being fitted to?
Diana
According to the other Cooper Automotive in St Peters Sydney, the plate was used for a short period up to 1999 and is quite a rare device although it is available new for $65 + the "O" rings. The kits are no longer available.
I would think while not as effective as the cross drilled option it would be cheaper and better to have than not at all.

I am wanting to convert a County LT230 to a cable shift mechanism similar to that used in the D2 for use in my SIIb forward control. I have the D2 lever and cable but not the bracket that connects to the Hi-Lo shift mechanism. What I can't work out is how the cable connects to the selector shaft. (I have both a D1 and 110/County LT230)
Is the selector shaft for the D2, different to the shaft for the D1 and 110?
Can someone post up some images to show the differences (if any)?
So no-one has any images of the cable shift mechanism of a D2 box? :(
In the added image, which end connects to the shift? (The ends connected to the box are the images I want. I don't have the bracket circled in red)

I am really surprised that no one has any photos of the D2 selector cables connecting to the LT230 transfer box?
