The problem is I don't have room to remove the drum without removing the gearbox first. It is why I was wanting to use the top hat rotor.

I understand the problem is the brake getting out of adjustment? What about using a spring brake diaphragm that you need air pressure to release the brake. My mk3 Inter has this modification

Have been getting a few little tasks attended in-between moving the last of our stuff off the farm.

This weekend I moved another SIIB (rolling chassis) up to Sydney, so now there are three SIIB on the one property (sort of). This gave me the chance to salvage the Maxi-drive ENV halfshafts from the rolling chassis and most importantly salvage the front anti-sway bar to replace the one missing off Gog removed by FWD in Blackburn South. To my surprise the bar was relatively easy to remove, save one stripped nut having to be cut off. The salvaged bar was cleaned and re-painted and again to my surprise easy to slip in. all that is remaining is bolting up all the fittings and job complete.

Another problem of Gog (as mentioned by Bill V-S (Wagoo)) was the tendency for the front of the cab to sag/tilt forward, when the windscreen was removed temporarily. This has been caused by the motor body builders in South Africa removing too much of the upper chassis beside the gearbox, which allowed the front of the upper chassis to tilt forward. The solution to this has been to clamp the tail end of the upper chassis rails to the lower chassis with ratchet type chain dogs and then fit strapping plates between the upper and lower chassis. The last of the plates were fitted over the weekend and chains removed.

Other tasks recently undertaken.

• Rear tail and blinker lamps have now been fitted,
• The too short rear axle check straps replaced with correct length ones.
• Fixed pintle has been replaced with a rotating/locking one so I can use Australian military trailers.
• Pintle now mounted on vertical LR-110 type receiver so I can also tow civilian trailers.
• 12 pin NATO socket has been installed.
• Rear wheel carrier attachment bracket modified so that it works properly after the bodgy half finished job by Island Campers when they did the camper conversion of the radio body.
• The air intake tube with sock filters from behind the drivers door (see image below) which induced significant engine noise into the cab has now a proper air cleaner/silencer installed.
• Air intake fitted with under floor/wheel arch ducting to reposition inlet in under bonnet at 5ft level.
• Sound deadening has been installed on the firewall and inside the engine bay.

Still planning to take it to Corowa 2015.
