Leopard Tank Help

Cheers isuzutoo-eh and the kind front-desk lady. The 44 is the bridge class of the tank much the same as the yellow disk on some of your lands out there. In tank world, on the Armoured Vehicle Launched Bridge (AVLB ) the bridge layer.

The bridge classes are use to calculate the daily tonnage that has traveled across the bridge sections. They are simple added as each vehicle crosses and recorded in the vehicle's drivers log book. The Leopard AVLB can cross 2000t daily over 50,000t for its life. Then at certain tonnage intervals servicing is carried out.

I have a technical question. Those "x"-shaped parts on the front glacis are they supplemental armour for defeating shaped charges, spacing for addition armour or something else?

There track grousers, they are fitted every 7-8 link and provide additional traction in snow and ice conditions.

Contrary to popular belief the rubber pads in the track are a permanent fitment. I have had this argument before where I have been told that the pads are only for peace time so not to destroy roads. However they they are are part of all modern track design and are there for long life of tracks. Look at a centurion tank coming off the end of WW2 steel track and pin, "dead track" , now rubber pads and rubber bushes around the pins that cause a natural bent in the links. This gives the tank longer lasting tracks, less maintainability, pads can be replaced when worn, the live track is easier to tension, noise and vibration is dispersed better. Have a look at any modern tank in a war theater Iraq or Afghanistan they still have rubber pads.

Rant over, they are grousers, fitted every 7-8 link on apposing sides, only one per link, 84 link in a track, rarely ever used.
