    cheers,

Had a look at the BNE ones on Friday - there were a few good ones in the bunch but most looked pretty tired. Cobwebs, etc inside - looked as though they had been sitting outside for a while. One or two seemed to have rust in the doors, but all looked as though they would still function. Logbooks seemed to show that a few were from 9FSB at Amberley.

    hello pvp89,

yeah, i'd agree with that, but then again friday was only the third time i saw a perentie in my life. i spent a good deal of last friday on the lot, maybe we talked there? sure they looked better than a 1980ish hunting truck i drove a few months back!

here's the question for people down south; are the ones in minto this time a particularly miserable lot? or is the current bidding just a natural development of supply and demand? they seem to have lower kms than the ones at eagle farm, where i noticed only one or two to have had speedo changes or something really particular in the maintenance logs.

trying to get into the witchcraft of perentie auctioning,

    pasi

    G'Day Pasi.
I am haunting the Bris Auction today and Minto tomorrow (Jetsetter that i am )
    Will give some comparisons then.
    Value?
I have seen rebuilds that were valued 18months ago at $135,000 sell for
    $18, 000. Others that are worth$4000 go for $8000!?
The auctions and information on the stock can be hard to wrap your head around.
That is why I am writing my Ex-Military Vehicles buyers guides, to cut through the lack of knowledge and BS that fills the gap.

This way the average punter can buy better and have more of an idea of what they are getting.
    Cheers, BDave.

thanks for flying for us barefoot dave!

looking forward to your findings. what comforts me is that the ute i would have bet for in brisbane is (for the moment) getting the highest bid (after a slow start). either i picked a good one or a bunch of others have been fooled as well. what kind of a time line are you on with your buyer's guide? will it be printed or only on line? sounds like an interesting and useful project, especially at this point in time.

    cheers,

    pasi

    G'day Pasi, glad to help.
Please see the Perentie Buyers guide thread for updates. I don't want to hijack this one too much.
    Cheers, BDave.

I had a look at the Minto auction on Saturday, by and large they weren't the cream of the crop. Lots of faded and worn canvas, the ambo has one corner of the roof roughly patched, there was a civvy part on one of the 110s that had been patched and modified to be similar to the original spec-done during service after damage according to the log book. Some had log books missing too, and only one had a winch-which didn't have a cable. It may become a 'buyer beware' scenario before too long.

Put it this way - most didn't look any worse than many I've seen lately in service. The dust, grime, etc in the back would clean out without too much trouble (a hose) - you'd get just as much garabage in them on the average exercise.

G'Day all.Well it has been a very busy and productive 5 days.
Fast tracked the Guide site, check out Bris Auctions briefly, shot off to Minto where I caught up with Isuzutoo-eh and 303Gunner. Thanks Gents, for your contributions.
Chatted with a LCH Captain that had played with Tville troopies, drop-offs and pick ups on beaches around the top end.
More confirmation that most people coming to the auctions have no real idea of what they are buying. Guide available in 14 days.

In case it had been missed; Old timer GS 48-028 is in Bris at this auction, tired but honest with 117K ks on the clock. Sorry, didn't see the log, so can't say any more.

    Some Spy shots following.

    hello fellow auction goers,

was that exiting or what!? a mad rush to the finish line. i'm smiling in front my screen at the insanity of it all. my budget got busted early on. it feels like a relief since i really had no clue on what i'd be buying. now i'll just wait for the buyer's guide and keep educating myself.

couple notions though. barefoot dave, will you include a section in your guide that explains the auction system? grays most likely has their tricks that no-one knows, but i think the publication of bids could be clarified to the public. i noticed in a couple instances (eagle farm vehicles) the bids to show very late on the bidding history in regards of their original bidding times. an example; vehicle no. 17 was taken at 7909$. two bids at this amount came in at 4:39:47 pm (bid time). the original bid time for the winner was 1:27:42 pm and for the loser 4:29:38. who can explain that?

the other thing that seems obvious is the heavy "owner's bidding" going on at the very beginning of the auction. i mean, why would the same person start bidding on several vehicles at two to three grand when you could start at 109$? of course it didn't seem to change the outcome - it's more than an hour past the "end" and in minto they're still going at it. and prices are very similar to those that eagle farm finished at.

    cheers,

    pasi
