You could say tourer but imagine a winch front and back

    Not the average 4by

I just inspected the Sydney auction and those log books / service books are a MUST READ folks

Vehicles odometers have been replaced on every unimog for a start

One of them has been replaced 4 times , its true km are around the 278,000 km mark yet the grays listing shows its current odo at 0000070 ( no brainer )

another one listed as having 50690 km is closer to 194,000

and those cranes are out of service and not legal for use under current OHS laws.

    .

now i have a question on the landies , can the brake fluid be replaced with synthetic or will that damage the seals in the master and slave cylinders ?

I have noticed that some of them have seized up slave cylinders from sitting for long periods so am i right in assuming that only mineral oil will absorb moisture while synthetic will not ?

    thanks.

I wish I could have inspected the minto lot as I am watching them but dont like the idea of buying sight unseen. I assume they are all able to drive out of there ok since they have a blue slip , is this assumption wrong?

    I wouldnt make that assumption

Grays forbid any vehicles from being started which didnt impress me.

One Unimog had seized up rear brakes yet it "had a NSW brown slip" ( same as a blue slip for vehicles under 4500 kg GVM )
I know its brakes are seized because there is a thick layer of rust on the rear brake discs , yet the front discs are shiny.
there is also brake fluid dripping out of either the clutch or brake master cylinder , ( the levers that the pedals are attached to are wet with fluid )

how did that pass an engineers inspection ?

Its a gamble , you might get one that you can get rego for without a hitch and drive around without mechanical issues but the odds could be anything from 10 - 70 % .

throw pins at a dart board ?

Yes . the prices are falling

there will probably be 2 or 3 more auctions this year and then ongoing

there are 2280 more of them to be sold yet

The quality of todays items was quite poor , just keep in mind they are getting rid of the worst ones first and holding on to the best for operational duty until they have the new vehicles come through.

I am super super keen to get one but the hand that holds my wallet is not a fool.
