In particular the 110 Isuzu, which has the same engine, mostly the same transmission (except the Perentie has tapered rollers in the transfer) and the same diffs and can still tow 2.3tonne more than the Perentie!

    Sad isn't it.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Are you sure?
I thought the 110 was the same as a non ABS Defender, 4000Kg.
Not that I'd want to tow anywhere near that with either.

From the 1986 110 Australian supplement owners handbook:-

    Front axle max load

    V8 1200 Isuzu 1300 6x6 1500

    Rear axle(s) max load

    County (wagon) 1750 Hardtop 1850 Cab/chassis 1900 6x6 4000

    GVM County 2950 Hardtop 3050 Cab/chassis 3200 6x6 5500

    GCM County 6950 Hardtop, cab/chassis, 6x6 7050

This shows that the maximum trailer mass for the County is 4000, but only 3850 for the cab/chassis and 1550 for the 6x6 assuming maximum GVM.

The owner's handbook (that this is a supplement to) shows maximum trailer mass of 4000 (fully braked), 3500 (overrun brakes) except for the 2.5 diesel, which was, of course, not sold in Australia.

From this I would expect that it should be fairly easy to get the towing weight increase approved. I assume the army towing masses are reduced for offroad use.

Yep, my head is around that.

John has confirmed what I remembered from my 110 (pre defender) 4000Kg towing. The same as my Defender 130.

Later Defenders with ABS can "only" tow 3500Kg.
