I'm not after features or comfort got my disco for that. Want one for knocking around the bush down here for trout fishing hunting ect. Won't want to mod it too much, just some slightly bigger tyres second bat for the fridge tool box for storage and a hf radio in case things go pair shaped. If it's like my mates old s2 we knocked around in when we were younger it will be right up my ally. Just with a better motor and coils

Was lucky enough to be offered a drive of a 6x6 up here at Corowa this weekend. A bit of off road and a good on road highway run. I can tell you right now that this vehicle is for me...

They are big and heavy, but have good manners on and off road. Power is adequate, brakes are good. Earplugs advisable for prolonged use above 90...

Got to start saving some pennies though.

They certainly won't be for everyone and I can see that some will get sold on in 12 months or so when the shine wears off for some owners...

I can imagine some conversations at the auctions between couples - 'Wow, that would make a great touring wagon - buy it dear...' Then after the first 200KM on the first trip 'Wow, this thing is noisy' or 'where's the mp3 plug into' or 'it's hot, turn the AC up...'...
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

I made it to the VIC site yesterday for a brief look. Didn't look at every vehicle, but there was at least 1 6x6 that was brand new. The soft tops were varying condition. And just for funny we climbed in a Unimog and turned the key. Even SWMBO thought it was pretty awesome although she most liked the 6x6's!!

Do any of the UniMogs have airconditioning?

I just spotted this photo in one of the auctions:

Is that black box thing with vents forward of the gearstick an airconditioner?

    Gah! So tempting!

But I can't make it to Sydney. Plus my partner is wholly opposed to a canvas top. I may win that battle eventually, but in case I don't, how many four door (senior Commander, I think?) 4x4s are likely to be left?

Should I feel like spending some time in the family court, are there any that look like total pups that should be avoided at all costs?

    Cheers,

    Charlie

when you were looking at them before, did you ever have a drive of one, spud?

I ask because IMHO the ergonomics for the driver are not good

    Current Minto Auction

Just been out to Minto, lots to look at!

I can see the boys with the pressure washers had been at work however after a week or so of sitting all the oil/clutch/brake fluid leaks have become apparent.
A couple of top looking Perenties with timing cover and rear main seal leaks.
Being unable to start them is a bummer as you have no idea of engine condition.
Not hard to tell which have had major overhauls when you look at the bidding so far.

I found an old beach towel and torch came in handy for underneath.

    Cheers
    Matt

After having a looksee yesterday I'd say that there are quite a few ok examples in this lot, & quite a few not so good - but it's something that you really need to look at yourself.

    plenty more to come yet

(although the number of hardtops of any kind remaining would be very limited)
