The good news is that the cage is removable, only then can it fit in a c130.
Spend $6k on an RFSV (turbo and Detroit rear) and you have 2-3X the capability. Glad I'm not the one digging them in to cache!
    Cheers, BDave.

Are you sure about that C130 thing? I thought you could get a Unimog in a 130!

A good thread with some comparison photos and capabilty infor here:
    GWagon, SRV

Maybe a little bias, but more accurately a bit of experience and knowldege from those who are trainers in both vehicles.
Not that I am not comparing the vehices in a drag race or mud run, but in their operational capabilities and requirements within RFSUs. Even without the turbo or locker, I honestly would take the Perentie!
    Cheers, BDave.

Na. Dave is rightish. The C130 is the Herc.
But, I didn't think we used the Herc much anymore. I thought the C17 Globemaster was the current aircraft for doing that sort of work.

Given the test is 6x6 with 3 diff locks and good tyres vs 4x4 with a single auto locker and 7.50s i find your comments almost impossible to believe. The advantage you have is no civvy in AU can get a 6x6 mog to do the back to back test.

Does this mean I could possibly get my hands on a well used LRPV??? :-) Or is the G wagon SRV only set up for short to medium range so the Landie LRPVs would still be in operation??

Squizzy, bad news mate. LRPV are never to be released. Current policy (verified from a number of sources) i they will not be seen at auction. Some will go to museums, the rest to scrap. LRPV are being used by commando, probably until the HawleI SOV is supplied.

Mick: the C17 is heavy lift on looooong formed runways. Not many of those where RFSU need to go. PS, that is a C17 that the bushie is emerging from.
The C130 is wide in the guts but tapers in at the roof. The incoming C27J is even worse. This its mainly what will be hauling SRV into the AO. They can a also land at more strips than the Herc.
I am no Loadie, so can't lay money on what I say. Only listen to those doing the job.

Slugburner:if you follow the link I provide and look at the piccies, you can see that there wouldn't be much difference between a mog without canopy and an SRV. The RFSV is higher than the 130 shown.

Isuzurover: asI said, I am not comparing then simply head to head but in the context of RFSU operations. This is something that I know a good deal about.
    I hope this clarifies things.
    Cheers, BDave.
