John, last year I broke my standard length 1/2" Sidchrome breaker bar undoing a wheel nut. I had owned this bar bar for over 40 years and it was completely devoid of it's chrome and was worn out on the cross hatch pattern on the handle end, it snapped on the swivel sides while using 3' of gal pipe as an extension. I returned this bar to the Sidchrome dealer at Batemans Bay (didn't mention the gal ext. bar), a couple of weeks later the rep reckoned it was to old to replace under warranty. Next time I was in there the Rep was there, so I informed him that the warranty was based on the lifetime of the original purchaser and I was still alive. A month or so later I recieved a brand new 600mm x 1/2" breaker bar and I don't need the gal pipe extension anymore.
If you counter problems with Sidchrome warranty, even though owned by Stanley, remind the agent/rep that under Australian Law the Sidchrome warranty is still valid and must be honoured by any new owner, Regards Frank.

Sounds like the same type and same occurrence as mine! Probably can't say the original purchaser is still alive though, as I got it from a deceased estate (I think - not even sure which sale it came from).
